Restaurants we need

I stand by that comment. Go to Texas, California, other states have BETTER Mexican than we do
I would assume since they have a hell of a lot more Mexicans in those states they would have more and better Mexican restaurants.

There's no chain restaurant I yearn for but could the Gold Nugget Bar & Grill in Boleus please open a Lincoln location?!

They put out a GOOD steak. 😋

He said better. He’s not wrong. We don’t need more Abelardo’s taking over every shelled out Wendy’s, and abandoned Dairy Queen in town. La Mesa is comically bad.

For this being a beef and pork state, our barbecue scene is pretty weak.
I’m no expert on the subject but bbq is more a culture than just a place to eat, I agree with you, I’m jealous of areas like the Carolina’s and Deep South, that food looks incredible on food shows.

Not a fan of authentic mexican personally...the few times people told me I was eating it....I could have used the leftover grease to change the oil in my Ridgeline....i'm more of an Americanized mexican guy....so Omaha works for me on that front. Would like to ha e KC's BBQ scene though.

Good call on The Smoke Pit. I used to drive downtown at least twice a year to go get the lunch special of a plate of ribs/cheap salad/bread for like $8 if I remember right. I loved them ribs.

My two choices to add would be California spots. El Pollo Loco and Del Taco. El Pollo Loco had the best tacos ever. Del Taco had the unhealthiest chili cheese fries. Whenever we would come back from the field in the Marines, we would run down to Oceanside and gorge ourselves on that. It was just the thing to loosen up all them MRE's jammed up in our colons.

As an aside, I will be in Memphis next Friday and will be sure to go get Gus's Famous Fried Chicken while in town. I think the one near Beale street is the OG and that is where I go. It is easily the best fried chicken I have ever had. The best.

I believe there are some of these on the west coast and I know at least some in NYC.

If you can you really should try

Jollibee -- Phillipino fried chicken place. Decent chicken but their spaghetti is what you need to try.

GoGo Curry-- Japanese curry. Fried pork cutlet, or chicken cutlet or shrimp over rice with a curry gravy. It's not Indian curry. Very little spice and AWESOME if you like rice and gravy

King's Food Host.

Just kidding.
When I was a kid, they were the go to. We loved how you had a phone at every table that you ordered through. It was fun watching the help take the order and move around like slugs. My dad liked to time them. Sometimes it was an hour before some neighborhood teenage girl showed up with the meal.

So this chicken sammie thread has got me thinking.

What restaurants have you been to in other cities that we need to get in Omaha?

I’ll be in favor of:

Gus’s fried chicken
Habit Burger
Epic Burger
Whataburger
Leeann Chin
Gus's chicken? Never heard of it. What region of the country.

Whataburger? California?
McDonalds level food at old McDonalds prices. I might be thinking of something else.

I’ve noticed some Texas locations in this thread, anybody in the DFW area?

Javi's & El Alambre are great.

I think Romeos is good too, but I also like La Mesa, haha.

I cannot remember the name of the place. It might be Taco Cabana? Either way, we NEED better Mexican Restaurants in Omaha

Well Christ when you just name the lames and the chains yea…those suck. Go to Guaca Maya on 33rd and L, Isla Del Mar or El Dorado’s on 24th, in that order. The DeLeon’s in South O is the best one and pretty damn good especially for late night munchies.

I personally do not know of another Chicago style deep dish pizza in Omaha other than Pizzeria Davlo, which is amazing, but we need more of that. If someone could name another spot I would check it out tomorrow.

Didn't omaha win the vote for a Giordano's about ten years ago. Then it never happened.

Lina's is just as good as Abelardo's. I think they are the same family. Very reminiscent of the great taco shops near Camp Pendleton like Roberto's, Colima's and the like.

I think I had Gus’s in Austin and Nashville. Whataburger is primarily a Texas chain but they are in Kansas City now due to Mahommes. The family sold them to a PE firm so I’m assuming they will be more expansion. I love Whataburger!!! Gus’s is amazing too!

Mmmm just head south at 24th an L. Some of the best authentic Mexican restaurants around

I went to a lot of Texas Rangers games there in the early 70's. Got to spend a little time in the stadium hoosegow for buying beer for my Air Force buddies when I was underage. LOL
I loved the ol' tin can. You could park for free nearby, cheap bleacher seats where you could watch the drunks fight, and those nachos. We used to bring binoculars for girl watching.

When I first read this I was thinking about this place in Lincoln - back in the day.

Before that location was Pontillos it was Hong Kong Pizza King. Believe it or not, it had great pizza. Only place I have ever seen where you could order a pizza with an egg roll!

Whataburger is starting to saturate the Kansas side of the KC metro. I have only been there once for a breakfast sandwich. It was a typical breakfast sandwich.

Based on people I have talked it is just another chain.

A vegan bbq place would be nice. Nothing quite like bbq tofu.
I'm going to assume you're serious, though I suspect you may not have been.

However, jackfruit is a great barbecue substitute if you don't eat meat or would like to take a break from it. It breaks down to where it looks and feels like pulled pork, but without the cholesterol.

Junior Miller's daughter owned and ran a raw vegan place on N. 27th St. in Lincoln. My wife and I visited last year when we were in town for my father's funeral. It appears to have closed, however. It was called Intuit Raw Foods.

Juju's vegan Creole and Cajun is still open on 11th Street.
