Report: Nebraska football, Matt Rhule have had ‘talks’ about head coach job

You really have no idea what good fishing is.
Grew up in Omaha, always liked to fish and thought fishing was pretty good in the state... until you go somewhere outside the state. Completely different ballgame in Minnesota, Texas, and Florida. I look back and realize fishing in Nebraska sucks by comparison. I want to do some fishing in Alaska someday.

If I fished where I am in SoCal all I would catch is bum feces….

Counting the days until I move to the finger lakes region of upstate NY.

But yeah, I hear the fishing in Alaska is amazing. I’d also love to try Minnesota someday and the Florida Keys

If it ever comes out that Urban fvcking Meyer wanted the job and was turned down by the university because reasons I really would be done with the program forever. And that’s not hyperbole.

I’ve taken long breaks already. But passing on Urban would absolutely be it for me. You’ve gotta be kidding with that.

No way the above is true. At least I hope it isn’t.

Decided to do some research on your posts. A month ago you claimed Rhule would never come to Nebraska because he has much better options. In another post you put it at 10% that he comes to Nebraska.

Now he’s at 40% in your post here. What gives? Seeing the writing on the wall and want to get out in front of it? When he is announced as the coach you can now say he was a close second to BoB in your mind? Take your garbage elsewhere.
@fivewords is too much of a coward to respond. She's real good at using that heart emoji though.

I do find it odd Rhule is in a hurry to coach again so fast. Guy has piles of cash...may as well take a season to kick it and enjoy life.
That is the illusion of wealth. To us average folks, we think that once a person gets a “pile” of money, they will be content to sit back and enjoy it. The reality is that they are mostly driven people who cannot sit back.

Fishing in Alaska is fantastic. I hate fishing, but loved fishing in Alaska.

FWIW, from what I’ve been told by the fam who are boosters (big Italian family that’s been funneling money into the program for like, 60+ years, hated Frost, etc.), Rhule doesn’t seem to want the job and urban has stepped in but other boosters and a lot of people don’t like him.

I’m not in Nebraska anymore and haven’t been for awhile but I think for certain that this continues to be ever evolving

If true on Rhule, I can't imagine we're gonna beg him. Trev hasn't specifically come out and said these words, but I would assume "wants to be here" would be at the top of his list of criteria.

I've always thought one of the weirdest things about Rhule was when he turned down the Oregon job to take the Baylor job. Oregon was in pretty good shape and Baylor was a steaming pile of garbage. Why would anyone in their right mind do that? I can't imagine it was because Baylor offered that much more money, if any more at all. I think I remember Rhule saying that it just felt right to him and his family. And then later he said it was because there was more HS talent in Texas. But that was a really weird decision by all accounts.

I would be super disappointed. Basically turn down Urban twice????

Who the F does that at a struggle bus program?

If true then the boosters doing this are what the problem is at Nebraska failing.

You just aren't going to find many Championship coaches without warts.

Maybe it's time someone starts waking the sleeping dogs and opening closets.

One can dream.

Seems the NU job is not seen as attractive. Perhaps MJ still has a chance.

Not everybody wants to live in a leftist utopia

I think it is a given that we hear all sorts unverifiable reports about various coaches that were interested but trev didn't want....including urbs.

None of it will be true of course, but that won't stop the usual suspects from creating hundreds of "trev sucks" threads.

the biggest fish I caught in nebraska was a 3ft flathead with ultralight 1/8th" gig and minnow at desota bend.
the biggest I caught out side is 42" muskie on long legged lake north of winnapeg.

Have a BIL in Denver who's been an avid fly fisherman since he could walk...he is late 50's now. Fly fishes all over the western United States...he has never kept a single fish or ate it. Has anyone ever heard of that? He likes fish...just throws em back so they can keep growing or making more for the next person.

When we go on our fishing trip. We generally keep enough for a fish fry at the cabin while having a few drinks. But we throw the majority back. The waters have enough people fishing that will keep anything and everything they catch puts a lot of stress on the waters.

I think it's an admiral quality and says a lot about a person...I had just not heard of it.

My BIL has some of the best photos of him fishing is some of the coolest spots, all stretched out with rod in one hand, net in the other, sun rising and or setting...mountains in backgroumd. I get why people like it.

Most all trout stream fishing in Colorado is catch and release. The way it should be.

You're right, I'm not a huge fisherman myself. But I have plenty of family who travel for fishing who nowadays would rather just opt to stay home and fish because it's plenty good in this land of rivers.

It's not like we're in the desert or anything lol

Texas is overall a more faith based community. Oregon... Def not. If that's really important to him where he'd turn down what was likely more money at Oregon, then I'd be willing to bet he'd "want to be here" at Nebraska.

Plus he thrives on challenge of a good rebuild. Oregon was not rebuild material then.

Plus the fact that his value and cache will drop if he sits out for say, 3 years like Chris Petersen.

So many places in the West have high metal content in their streams and small rivers. A lot of those streams you see around ski resorts and I 70 in Colorado are toxic from old mining. My cousin who lives in Breckenridge has a stream behind her house. It runs through old mine tailings. I’ve never seen people fish there. The summer before last I was fishing around Philipsburg, MT. The area once had a lot of mining activity and eating the fish is not recommended.

Robert Griffin III tweet after Will Compton tweet about Rhule news: "Nebraska is the best coaching position available".
RG III is washed up and can’t hold a candle to fivewords.

I don’t know about the rest of you in this thread, but I will take anonymous message board troll over an established heisman winner and former NFL QB any day of the week.

We are fortunate to have him.

(maybe reverse psychology will get him to stop)

Unfortunately, that nut job gets off on attention. He probably got quite excited after reading your post.
