We lost some guys in the portal and lost some guys to the draft. But bringing in guys like Dawson Merritt and Christian Jones who will play right away. Kade Pietzrak, Tyson Terry and Malcolm Simpson will help on the D line as well. Grab some big boys in the portal to offset the loss of Ty and Nash to play with RVP and we won't skip a beat.

Isn’t Terry recovering from an ACL?

Believe the plan is still to wrestle this year but not sure where he is in his recovery

I don't want any true freshman starting on the line. Need Portal transfers for a year or 2 while those guys get aclimated.
These two can be the big boys on the Dline for now and grab some transfers.

I don't think we need to go crazy in the portal for the D line. Maybe a DT and a DE. IF we can get two mature above average DTs that would be great but probably not going to happen.

He is a true asset to Nebraska football!!

Out of the players we are going to lose, there will be a few we would rather keep. But that’s going to be the case pretty much everywhere in the march to 105.

Seems like opportunity if you have a good eye for what you want. That’s why you need a group dedicated to identifying the players to pursue in the portal. Or to tamper with.

I think we should go bonkers along both lines. If we really want to rebuild this program it starts in the trenches. Possibly 50% of roster in those two areas to start. 1:2 players being a OL/DL

Yea his dad is nuts about wrestling and he’s got a chance to go down as the greatest heavyweight in Nebraska high school history

Must be a good sign for his knee injury
Or he decided to delay surgery and just rehab until after wrestling.

I personally don't think he's an early rep guy at Nebraska anyways unless they get incredibly thin.

I'm not sure we can buy portal starters better than some of the guys we already have. Difference maker linemen are probably not going to be in our reach financially. Maybe we can land a guy or two but I'm not holding my breath thinking that we're going to sign all conference kind of transfer linemen. They'll likely be roster hole pluggers.

Probably. But I would shoot for the stars in those positions and offer them a mint.

I don't know what we can offer. I have a friend of 60 years who is a big donor and he said he's closed his wallet for football. I suspect there are others who have done the same. He lamented how much money we've blown on facilities and buyouts and the results are the same. We're talking about a guy who has donated hundreds of thousands if not millions of dollars to NU over the past few decades.

I don't blame him. And honestly I think more guys need to do it. At some point our players and coaches need to start earning all that they have been given. Too much is taken for granted. You want to have facilities like the big boys. Go out and win instead of looking for a handout.

Plenty of teams with a fraction of the facilities that we have are winning 8-11 games a year. It's silly how much is wasted on this program in an effort to buy wins.

It doesn't work. It will never work. Winning is the ingredient were missing and money simply won't buy wins. Unless you are the KC Chiefs.

You hope donors stop spending on the football program?

Lol. Okay.
I hope that the football program begins to get the picture that, you can't continue to produce a shit product and still have golden castle to reside in.

Why would anyone support spending more money on top of all of the money that has been spent in the last 20 years. Its clear that money isn't the problem.

2 years overdue

Purge baby purge!
This team is young enough that that means he's likely going to have to whack a good number of the guys he recruited to get down to 105. I'm not sure that's a chemistry building plan. I get that he took a large number of projects that first year especially but damn. Adding 21 freshmen and 14 transfers to the number....damn. Buckle up boys.

You’re right, money isn’t the problem.

I’d prefer we keep it that way.

New coordinators, new players

Way of the world

I don’t care how old you are, if you can’t play you shouldn’t be here

Exactly so stop spending, stop contributing. send a message. What could possibly happen? We end up with a losing season?

People want to donate cool. It goes into a endowment that's tied to winning %. You want dollars from the endowment? F'n beat Iowa when they are playing with their 4th string QB.

You can't preach Tommy Tough Guy, "Way of the world" and then follow it up with give them whatever $$$$ it takes to possibly get wins.

If you can't play and produce you shouldn't be rolling in $$$$ and living the life of luxury at every turn.

Those first year projects have had two years to develop. If they aren’t ready yet, then it is too late.

Going forward, players that can’t get on the field generally need to be processed after this amount of time:
HS OL/DL/QB : 3rd year
HS other : 2nd year
Portal : 1st year

If you’ve been on the team that long and haven’t contributed on the 2-deep, time to go.

Accept only portal players that have played a lot.

That formula looks about right to me.

That's a lot of transfers.
There’s more supply to choose from, for this cycle only. And many of those extra players are better than what has been out there in previous cycles. And the open spots are fewer and more selective. But this creates opportunity for middling teams to upgrade.

It’s not like we’re giving lifetime contracts

Come here get paid, play well get paid

Suck ass you’re gone (unless you’re Rhule’s friend)

I disagree. Other than maybe 3-4 guys, I dont think we’ll bring in any better than what we already have.
