Whether kids are previously committed to other schools or not, hopefully Husker coaches out on trial are showing big money signs to change minds!
Keep looking at NIL numbers from other sites and it would be nice to flip some of these kids! We definitely need a roster turnover on offense and defensive line, as well as linebackers!.. interested to see how many transfer portal and juco players end up in Lincoln in January ?!! ( big bust on Oline portal last year)
Sad as Husker fan, already past this season and looking forward to next year!

Were his NIL benefactors advised of this? He was billed as an elite pass rusher and sack machine -- exactly what the Huskers needed. Over 5 conference games, he has recorded exactly one QB sack. Four more games, we'll see how he finishes.
I agree he has work to do, but could use help from other 10 on the field. 🤪

If he has any eligibility left, I'm guessing he leaves in the portal, as his NFL stock has taken a huge hit this year, unless he doesn't get a comparable NIL offer

On that note, Rogers and Jordon Riley both start in the middle of Oregon's defense. Ouch.

Even if he did, isn’t the one time transfer rule in place? So all the guys we got this past off season would have to sit out a year if they transferred again?

Or do they give exceptions like candy, as they did before?

2023 looks like another lost recruiting class that we’ll pay for for the next 5 years……

Blame trev. We should have had a real head coach to start the year. Trev didn’t want to fire a losing coach because he was afraid of what the mob would say. A competent ad would have done what’s necessary even if it’s not popular.

A competent AD came into the position after both a covid year and a seemingly mismanaged football program. It likely took him some time to sort through what he encountered. It is easy to look at the record as the indicator of the underlying issues but they may not tell the entire story.

Trev got to the bottom of things and obviously had to taken into account what his predecessor did or didn't do. He laid down expectations based on all of that data and the rest is history. I just don't think you come in and right away fire a guy without gathering information on the programs trajectory and then attempting to repair all of that. Remember, that was the year this team was close in every loss, much different than getting blown out every week.

HAHAHAHA we have recruited ONE defense line difference maker in 5 years Darrion Danials. ONE offensive line difference maker and he is suspended. It is worse than sucks.

Depends who he hires now compared with who was available last year that wanted the job..

Maybe Trev didn’t feel comfortable enough hiring someone last year that he wasn’t sure about..
People on this board also mentioned big boosters wanting to give SF another chance..

Interestng. How do you explain Alberts' decision to retain Fred Hoiberg?

If I had to guess, I would say he ends up equaling last years numbers

Bring in a great freaking coach/staff and our transfer portal will be 🔥! That’s what matters for this recruiting cycle. Accept that we will struggle with incoming freshmen.
Why does everyone think the transfer portal is the cure-all? Not saying it can't help or make a difference but there is a reality to it.

Kids that start and are contributing on winning teams aren't looking to leave. What does that leave? Kids that occasionally started, got in trouble, were highly rated but are now a bust and the list goes on.

It can be great for depth and a couple pieces to rejeuvinate key spots with difference makers like Palmer, CT, etc. But I agree, it's not the end all be all like recruiting still is going to be.

New coach will need to hit the portal hard and get the real difference makers vs depth pieces. Otherwise they'll need to hit recruiting HARD and ASAP.

Right now, Mathis is not among the Top25 players in the Big Ten for QB sacks. IIRC, his 9 sacks the year before (2020, 2nd Team All Big12) is what generated the hype.

Have you been hiding under a rock? There have been many reports of MJ and staff hitting the recruiting trail and sending out offers. The offers are to positions of need...

The transfers we got this past cycle have been pretty good. Even the 2 DTs who started slow showed well against Illinois.

He’s drawing chips and double teams often. He’s helped but he needs a bigtime DT next to him that requires double teams.

This is why MJ is targeting JUCO's. He can get the full story from the coach, not a kid spinning out lies as to why he is transferring...
Clearly the transfers we got did it for playing time or money. So what. They’ve helped. When you can get a high 4 star DT from Bama who has played some, you better take him. That guy’s a grown man. Did you not want Trey or Casey?

Neither one really floated my boat. I was hoping the competition would make someone there better. My opinion, and we all know what opinions are worth, the transfer portal will not produce the long-term effects you desire. They are one-year (mostly) hired missionaries that are a long shot, they transfer for a reason. I have no solution for the QB or line play other than it will be a multi-year fix. Even if you hit a home run in a transfer, there will be that remaining hole that needs to be filled after they leave if the players are not being developed properly. I am not a proponent of the portal, I think it gives false hopes to the players and most of the players will not find a landing spot. There are some success stories, but far more failures.

College football is no longer about helping to develop boys into men, it is nothing but a meat market that requires grown men to sell their souls to the devil to remain relevant in an irrelevant sport. It requires underdeveloped brains to make decisions that they are not prepared for. Power 5 College football needs to be scrapped and make it what is, a minor league system for the NFL. When it gets to the point where it is now, where coaches are recycled every two to three years because they are not winning instantly, it is time to reevaluate the system. The governing board of college athletics has nothing but increased the problems associated with football and basketball. (I am done with my rant)

No doubt it takes both, but with a regime change, we will potentially have more luck filling spots from the portal over an incoming class that commits to someone that may no longer be here in a month. Also, imagine how incredibly shitty this team would be without CT and Palmer. Like, 0 wins shitty.

Dingle, with all due respect, what does "pretty good" mean on a 3 win team like Nebraska? You actually made my point.
It means better than the guys Frost recruited and maybe as good as the guys who transferred. Palmer. Drew. etc. Better than what we had available this year. There are guys who are pretty damned good players who just want to play. Does the name Joe Burrow ring a bell. I heard he wanted to come to NU.Winking

There's really no reason we shouldn't have a decent DL. Mathis, Nelson, tanner, Drew, Nash, Feist, Wynn.

Plenty of talent, plenty of guys that have been solid players either here or elsewhere.

Coaching and Scheme are the issues.

My f’ n point was that I hope this staff is going after top shelf, even if already committed (Hughley, ect..) and using NIL as lure instead going after local and left over D-3 talent.

You want to engage in good conversation, don’t start your replies with stupid sarcasm! I know that Mickey and gang are working really hard! Thread was more like a prayer 🙏
