Bill Moos joined Sports Nightly on the Huskers IMG Sports Network tonight for the first show with the Athletic Director of the 2018-2019 season. Here is a quick recap of what was discussed.

***Moos said that he has felt the high level of excitement ever since Scott Frost took over the head coaching duties. He pointed to the Spring Game selling out in 36 hours and the “tremendous energy” that is around the program, currently.

***Moos admitted the first practice he attended was “as good as [he’s] seen” when it comes to the organization and the level of focus for a football team. He said that at one point the team was coming off of a “lackluster” performance the day before and followed it up with an up-tempo and healthy practice the next day.

***New Director of Performance Nutrition Dave Ellis was described by Moos as “the best in the business.” He admits that an athletic department needs to pay a little more to get the best but wants that standard for the student-athletes.

***As far as Ellis goes, he will focus primarily on football while also overseeing the entire athletic department. There are still four more spots left to fill on his staff and Moos said that Ellis is in the process of filling those positions out.

***A big concern that Moos was determined to address was the nutrition aspect of the athletic department. Moos said that they ask a lot of their student-athletes and want to make sure they are all fueled and hydrated properly. He also pointed out that Nebraska used to be the top standard when it came to nutrition but acknowledged that the program had started to lack what they used to be so good at.

***Moos said that the crane’s that can be seen around Memorial Stadium were the improvements that are being made for the lights. Other projects that were being worked on were done inside the north stadium, adding concessions and restrooms, which will also be started in the south side of the stadium at some point in the near future.

***Moos admitted that he gets to brag to his colleagues around the country about the fan support from Nebraska, citing the recent sellout for, not only the football spring game but also the Red-White scrimmage for the volleyball team. He says that it’s just another example of “what this program is all about.”

***The recent rule changes that were made expanding the roster to 110-men is something that Moos is all on board with. He admits that there are other travel squad issues that need to be addressed but anytime there can be more participation, it helps everyone out.

***Moos is also in favor of the new rule change involving the four-game redshirts. Moos again points out that “we’re in the for the young people” and anytime you can get a win-win for both the player and the program, it’s a good thing.

***With the recent problems going around with other Big Ten programs, Moos wants to be able to learn from the mistakes committed at these programs and make sure the same problems don’t happen at Nebraska.

***Moos said that he is confident that things are being done the right way within the program but also emphasizes the importance of relaying any information that needs to be reported. “The safety and the well-being of our student-athletes is the most important.”

***When Moos first came on as the Athletic Director, he talked about how he let the program continue to run the way it was run before. It wasn’t until around mid-December, early January that they started addressing the issues and it took until early April to have everything addressed.
