Realistic 2017 predictions

8 wins should be achievable without a huge improvement on either side of the ball. The potential is there for QB play to be much better (at the cost of little to no QB run game) - but a bit more efficiency would really help points production. Defense clearly will be interesting. My guess is we'll see a mixed bag - very good some games and boat raced a few others. BUT - if the D can string together a few excellent defensive games early - it could carry over through the season. Special Teams has to improve - primarily punt return and kick-off coverage - DPE where are you?

Overestimating the quality of our opponents? We have not proven AT ALL we can beat Wisconsin on a regular basis. Iowa has beaten us two years in a row now. Northwestern always gives us fits. I'd say people around here are pretty rational sizing up our competition in the West.
Took Wisconsin to overtime on the road last year and we get them at home. We beat Iowa two years in a row in our first two years in the conference. Didn't stop them from beating us the next year. They have major parts they need to replace. The Northwestern always gives us fits routine is overplayed. We are 4-2 against them since we joined the conference.
The truth is people who are negative about next year(or any year for that matter) are negative because they want to be. It's that simple. If you want to see good things happening, then that's what you predict.

Offense will end up ranked 75 to 95 nationally. The defense 50ish. Overall record = 4-8.

So, when that doesn't happen, I'm sure you will be back on the board to man up and tell everyone how wrong you always are??

I'm a little late with my reply. I apologize for that. To answer your question, yes, should our team not end up with a 4-8 record, I promise to come back to the board and admit that I was wrong (as I always am).

Looking back, it was probably foolish of me to predict that our defense would finish 50ish nationally. I thought we had enough talent on defense to overcome any growing pains that might come with a new DC. I was wrong there. Barring a miracle, it looks like both the O and D will finish in the 75 to 95 range.

This year's record (so far) shouldn't have been a big surprise considering the schedule, a new QB and DC, and Riley's history.

We still have two more games to go, so as mentioned previously, I'll have no problem coming back to this thread and eating crow if my overall prediction ends up being wrong.

Props to you. Now what will our record be next year?
