Honest question I've been wondering the past few days. How much does the increasing outside pressure from the fans affect how the players are playing in games? I cannot remember the last time NU came into the game loose and just played football.
We saw it last Saturday. The opening drive NU came out looking like a team that was loose and was just doing what they know how to do. The pick six happens and we just roll over into a shell. Players seem much more timid and afraid to make mistakes throughout the rest of the game and I think that was pretty obvious to see. (For the most part just the offense)
Now I understand this could potentially only be a small factor into the grand scheme of why Nebraska has performed the way that it has, but I do feel the players do feel this outside pressure. After all these players are 18-22 years old, lord knows how I would react to so much pressure from others to perform at that age. I couldn't even handle the pressure of paying my bills on time!!
Anyway I guess I feel like this team has performed it's best when it played like it has nothing to lose and minimal pressure from fans. After the 2015 Purdue debacle how much pressure was coming from the fans to beat Michigan state? Or UCLA in the bowl game? The season was a lost cause at that point to many fans and the team finally started to just play ball. That mentality needs to somehow manifest itself without losing so many damn games before the team finally decides to just play football with nothing to lose. Am I factoring this too much into the equation of success or do other feel this way? Would love to here some of your guys' thoughts.
