Portal time again? Iowa loses a WR and RB

The Iowa WR has one catch on the season. The Alabama DL has one tackle on the season.

I was wondering if this redshirt and transfer game was going to catch on in the B1G or SEC. It has, but so far only with people getting very little playing time.

I saw UCF had 6 players do this. 2 starters plus 4 backups.

So, he was Iowa's best WR? Eek

Recruits have to know they come to block for the RB and TE.

If you’re a talented WR or QB, you know you’re gonna have bottom half of the NCAA stats across the board in that offense. You’re not even remotely going to get the support and/or opportunity to show pro scouts anything. Serious programs groom NFL QBs and WRs or at least try. Kurt grooms future insurance salesmen and rental car agents…

They have some TEs in the league: Kittle, Hochenstein, Fant.

Had 821 yards and 4.8 ypc last year. This year, 21 yards on 11 carries.

Clear the dead weight.
Gotta be done
This is good and necessary. You set a high standard and you challenge guys to meet it or exceed it. Sometimes those guys aren’t making much noise and sometimes they are good players like Micah. Either way, as coaches you have to have integrity and back up what you preach. When the players can trust each other and their coaches, you form a cohesive unit and go to war together. It’s all part of the process of creating a winning foundation. As good as Nebraska was for as long as it was, it’s hard to believe we ever lost it.

I noticed that. But why would poor stats and little opportunity to impress pro scouts impact QB and WR but not TE?
TEs block. Fant’s speed made him a unicorn. Kittle developed more in the NFL than many thought he would.

I’m still pissed that my Vikes traded for Hockenson. Yeah he catches some balls but seems like every game he had an inexplicable costly drop. Would rather the Vikes had ZERO Hawkeyes on the team.
As a Lions fan, I could not have been more excited to dump Hock. He is a decent TE that drops balls and was going to demand a huge contract. It was a great trade for the Lions.

Because they prioritize the TE in their offense. Lots of 2 TE sets to block for the run game and they’re often 2 of the 3 available targets in the play action pass game. Did you really need me to state the obvious? Their 1950’s offense features RBs and TEs.

It seems like 80% of I_wa's offense (if you can call it that) is a stretch run or a play action off of that with a bootleg to the tight end.

KKKirk has earned a living by running that stretch play. They run it so much because they can gain 0 yards on it 9 out of 10 times, but the 10th time they catch the defense in the wrong play and it goes for a TD. Get 2 TDs out of that play and maybe 1-2 FGs because of field position by their punt game and there is good chance they win. That has seemed to work against mediocre teams in any conference but they get smoked against teams that can sustain drives or hit chunk plays.

It is boring. Iowa sucks.

With few exceptions, I’m not a fan of the midseason quitters.
Wait for the offseason, or accept your spot at the program you chose for the season.
Be a real teammate. It matters.

I understand the sentiment but in Leshon’s case, what does he do? It’s his last yea rod eligibility and I don’t think anyone blames him for not wanting to waste it getting 3rd or 4th string reps. Does he stick around and tell Kirk he isn’t playing? What’s a head coaches response to that? Mine would be to mutually separate. No reason for him to be around the program if he is gonna refuse to play past 4 games.

The redshirt and transfer thing will continue to spread and Nebraska is not immune to it. Recruiting high character kids will help in that regard, but the crappy players who somehow had a lot of stars next to their name in H.S. will bounce around to different schools Luke McCaffrey style.

I am on the side of the players. All of the “adults” always do what’s best for themselves and they tell the kids to stick it out?
Go find a place that will play you, period. Schools can’t complain either because the guys aren’t major contributors.

Works out for everyone IMO
