Portal players taken. 16 and counting. 1st in Big 10. 6th Nationally

Does Rhule seem like the type of coach that is content?

Usually the content guys aren’t the hardest working guys in the room.

Name me another coach we have had in our history that works as hard as Rhule?

There aren’t many in CFB that do.

They all work hard. All the successful ones anyway. Thats not to say Rhule doesn’t. But to think his work ethic is something special compared to other college coaches is really naive

Pretty ironic coming from the Deion Sanders super fan.

Nebraska fans are the biggest obstacle to Nebraska ever being taken seriously again what’s the plan after Rhule do a weekend at Bernie’s with Osbourne?
I agree with you, but maybe not in the way you think I do. There are plenty of Rhule fans on this site that are enablers of his and this circus we are going through.. and these guys are smarter than the average fans who have to be told what to think.

If Rhule was the right guy, we would have seen something show up not only in the win column, but in the culture already.

There are certain coaches that you know if you brought them in, you'd be competitive day 1.. Rhule has great speaking skills and an okay rolodex. People are already buying in to the off system propaganda, and you get this for another 7-8 months, only for fans to be 'stunned' by the performance of the team come next fall.

Been crticial of Rhule and company this year however even I must admit that I love what they are doing in the portal. In terms of immediate and undeniable talent I'm really hoping that the portal with NIL can act as the equivalent of our 90's partial qualifiers. If we can be in the top 5 portal rankings every year AND our coaching staff can develop those players then look out.

Many were freaking out when we lost a few guys early in the portal. I expected them to sign some good talent in the portal but they have gone above and beyond my expectations for sure.

Gronowski is also considering declaring for the draft.

"“I’m trying to weigh all my options to do what’s best for me and my career,' Gronowski said, via ESPN. 'I’m confident in what I can do in the NFL. If there are opportunities that help my family, I’ll change my mind. It’s doing what’s best for me and my long-term interest overall.'”

Gronowski
Considering the draft? Well ok. I think then Iowa is going to be a great place for this kid. I hear Methamphetamine use in Iowa is consider quite normal

Nobody was freaking out. It was rightly stating concerns from 3 of our top 15 players at the time leaving. But the staff has more than made up for it with this transfer portal class. With a large dose of help from our NIL funding.

What's the big difference between taking a portal transfer and going after junior college guys in the past? Didn't we shy away from JC guys when Osborne was in there? Will these transfers bring us the wins we are seeking?

Presumably many, although not all, have played at a higher level of competition so should be more proven. But we'll see.

how does everyone feel about Rhule's vision when hired 2 years ago - "we are a developmental program" - being essentially thrown out in an attempt to keep up with the Joneses?

seems our best players are still those who are homegrown. we've seen production from the portal in the Rhule era, but no real game changers.

this isn't about right/wrong, just recognizing the tremendous foundational disruption in college football through the rearview mirror.

couple the new landscape with three new coordinators, I'm honestly not sure how Rhule should even be evaluated in Year Three or even at all moving forward.
The NCAA changes since Rhule came on are responsible for the difference. With the portal, NIL and maybe most importantly roster reduction to 105, who can afford to develop players in the historical sense?

Interesting, iowa’s biggest obstacle is their enduring reputation as a 2nd rate program that will never win anything of substance. Gotta be hard to recruit to a team that hasn’t won anything in the entire history of college football.

Huge difference. Juco guys either have academic issues or didn't get the offers they wanted out of hs. We have a combo of players this year. Proven P4 guys like the OU LB and Key at WR, proven lower level guys like the Georgia Southern LB, big program unproven guys like the Georgia safety and Nwaneri. Not all will work out, but a lot will.

Does bringing in 20 transfers (20 out of 105 on the roster) now mean we're no longer trying to be a developmental program?
Might be new norm with jumping around normalized and teams carrying 23% more scholarships. Could also be a one time deal since we needed to get UP to 105 Big 10 quality players.

Jucos were more of an academic thing. TO would find occasional gems there but partial qualifiers was a better route because that got the kid on campus and in the program. Otherwise even though they might commit to NU and then go juco after not qualifying, once at the juco they could be fair game for other schools.

K state used the ks Jucos as their farm clubs when big 12 formed and got rid of partial qualifiers and became a thorn in our side

I guess it would depend more on how many years each incoming transfer has left to play. Nwaneri has multiple years, I would still consider him developmental. Then consider how many of the transfers start from the jump vs how many are providing depth.

Withhold judgment on these guys until they actually play on game days and play well.

Neyor was supposedly great
Blye Hill was going to be our best CB
I could go on and on.

The grass isn’t always greener.
The grass isn’t always shit either. Im excited about who’s coming in from a talent perspective, some folks are not. All good.

Of course wasn't Mike Rozier a Juco transfer? He did pretty well for us!

this is an interesting choice of words

"urgency"

took 2 years, but I'm glad somebody has kicked Rhule in the ass to get it in gear.
In fairness I think this displays more of Rhule’s adaptability to the new college landscape. He came in with a plan based on how he thought it would work from his past experiences. It didn’t work as the game has changed significantly and now he’s showing the ability to pivot and learn the new world.

Is there a way to track or does anyone know how many guys still need to leave after bringing in the 20 new guys? Its feels like its still a wash numbers wise and still probably need another 25+ guys to leave is that correct?

I guess

But unlimited transfers and NIL were a reality the day Rhule was hired

Only thing that’s really changed is the 105 roster limit.
