Portal players taken. 15 and counting. 1st in Big 10. 6th Nationally

how does everyone feel about Rhule's vision when hired 2 years ago - "we are a developmental program" - being essentially thrown out in an attempt to keep up with the Joneses?

seems our best players are still those who are homegrown. we've seen production from the portal in the Rhule era, but no real game changers.

this isn't about right/wrong, just recognizing the tremendous foundational disruption in college football through the rearview mirror.

couple the new landscape with three new coordinators, I'm honestly not sure how Rhule should even be evaluated in Year Three or even at all moving forward.

There are higher expectations and more scrutiny on every aspect here. Would Rhule have replaced Foley, Satterfield and McQuire if this were Temple or Baylor? I think Rhule may not have felt that difference at first. But now he has urgency.
I agree, it didn't seem like Rhule fully understood the level of expectations here. Although I'm not quite as brazen as Kong on this topic, I think Dannen did help cement those expectations that had been lacking in these first 2 years.

I would guess zero fans have ever expressed their disappointment in the football team's performance directly to Rhule since he's been hired here.

7-6 in 2024 achieved a near universal approval rating on this site.

any urgency he is feeling is not coming from fans.
You clearly don't go to games. He definitely heard it directly from the fans in Memorial this year.

give me some specifics

people were disappointed we were losing? booing (UCLA)? calling for heads to roll?

do you think a single NU fan has ever expressed their disappointment directly to Rhule at a basketball game or out on the town? I definitely don't, but could be wrong.

Nebraska fans are the biggest obstacle to Nebraska ever being taken seriously again what’s the plan after Rhule do a weekend at Bernie’s with Osbourne?

Not a big believer in the portal rankings. Just hope that most of our adds are better than the guys that got pushed out.
Agree, except I don't think the winter portal departures were push outs. I think those guys either saw a better opportunity or cut themselves off the roster to avoid being cut after spring ball. The hard math, and the pushing out, of guys who might actually want to be here, is coming in the spring.

when they were overcome with joy storming the field after our 6th win of the season?

or a different time?

Rhule's approval rating is through the roof. I don't talk to anybody who doesn't love him and think he's got the goods to bring us back to national relevance.

Evaluated aggressively if we don’t win an additional 2-3 games. There has been progress, especially on the talent front, but the program and fanbase are adjusting expectations on the fly. Having Raiola on the squad has no doubt increased that sense of urgency to win now. I appreciate the pivot. He has done that from a coaching and strategic portal perspective. Can’t ask for much more at the moment. Now talk to me next year if the results aren’t there.

so if we don't win 9-10 games next year he should be "evaluated aggressively"?

what do you mean by that?

So we shouldn’t be pleased about the portal additions? Assume they will fail? Or should we be somewhat pleased at who’s coming in and expect more?
any conclusions drawn prior to seeing the new guys play are much closer to hope/belief than formulated proofs.

nothing wrong with being pleased or disappointed or anything in between because it's simply a matter of opinion, to which each individual is entitled

I just don’t see a reason for the cup to be half full of piss, but to your point, folks are allowed to have differing opinions on players that are/were evaluated well nationally. Lord knows the last 8 years have damaged enough psyches to keep every psychiatrist in Nebraska busy every fall.

I'm guessing they're better than the ones that have transferred. Some of the ones that stayed might become backups. The ones getting pushed out will probably be the walkons and 5th stringers

The best thing Rhule did was finally figure out that Satterfield was a sack of shit and removed him as OC. That gives me some hope at least. Year three should be a big step forward, not because it’s year 3 but because we dumped the biggest dumbass OC in the P4 and replaced him with one of the best.

UCLA. People were frustrated with everything, including a lack of urgency for plays going in and the offense getting to the line. I don't know what you mean by calling for heads to roll during a game. I think thousands of people booing you during a game is a pretty clear indicator that people expect better.

I can't answer your 2nd one. Probably not?
