So sad to see all these kids on X posting that they are still available. Sure, some of them made a bad choice when they went in (they are working with a brain that hasn't fully developed yet & I'm sure many are being given bad advice by agents and friends/family). But MANY were forced in by the roster limitations.

The powers that be better get this crap figured out before it ruins more kids' dreams and totally wrecks college football. I wish I was surprised that this has become such a cluster.

The last 4 years will go down as one of the stupidest times in history across the board.

Welcome to America. Where people should have the freedom to make choices and live with those choices. Everyone will be fine. It's not like they are going to the Gulag if they don't find a D1 team in the next 2 weeks.

I wonder if a verbal nil contract goes far? cause if they get it in writing before entering the portal, seems like it would be evidence of tampering...

Yeah, because manipulating young athletes with money and setting up a system that encourages disloyalty, lack of perseverance, and a "me first" attitude is just what we should be doing to these kids.

I should also add "corrupt" to this time in history.

One could argue the kids did it to themselves. I would have to see the numbers. NU had the biggest walk on program? At 60 walk-ons? Most were more like 30? But every team can or will add 20 legit scholarships? Cry me a river. Teams like East Tennesee State and Rhode Island are now looking for players. Everyone will be fine.

I'm sure much will be written someday about this particular period of the transfer portal, roster limits, and NIL. It'll be an interesting read to see a breakdown of where everyone ended up at.

I hope a lot of these players end up with a scholarship, somewhere, at the very least. For this year it doesn't seem like a safe move to enter the portal in hopes of attracting more NIL money. You'd better be in high demand & have some good stats to pull that off.

I’m sure there are many kids on every team that were told you may want to hit the portal because you won’t be here come fall. There are other kids out there, looking for a payday, which I don’t blame them because many of us forget that some of these kids come from absolutely nothing. There will be kids that will have to drop down and out of power 4 and maybe even to the FCS level worked their tail off and try to get back

I’m going to guess and it sounds like there will be many changes coming this summer with NIL and the transfer portal especially with profit-sharing entering the picture

These "kids" are looking for two things, money and playing time. Something they pretty much could not do in the past. Hell some coaches even refused to release players! Think how ****ed up that is.

They will all find teams, maybe not their dream school, maybe not dream money, maybe not the first time in the portal, but maybe the second.

We know the math of reducing rosters to 105 means by definition that some players will have to be left without a home at the end of this portal "musical chairs". They will have to either go to lower division schools or quit football. There just won't be enough roster spots to go around to accommodate all the pre-105 limit players. That's the most onerous impact of the 105 limit, it mostly eliminates things like walk on programs for kids to have a chance to develop and prove themselves.

Or you could say that it's giving 20 would-have-been walk-ons a scholarship.

Let's all be honest. What was the hit rate on walk-on players? Most of those players should have been FCS or D2 anyway. With the extra 20 scholarships I'm sure deserving kids will be on scholarship anyway. Now there are 20 extra scholarships for MAC schools, or Sun Belt schools, or whoever.

We love to romanticize the walk-on story. But really, if you are playing a lot of walk-ons my guess is for the most part, things have gone really bad for your team.

For every walk-on story where the kid becomes amazing there are 1000 walk-on stories where the kid never sniffs the field. I know we love "Yeah, but those walk-ons make all the scholarship players better because they try so hard" Ehhhh, probably not.

I coached football for years and the kids that would be your "walk-on" types, for the most part, did not try any harder or push anyone more.
