Portal Offers and Visits

My goodness, someone is beating the portal like it was a red-haired step child. Can we stop panicking for a bit? TIA
Fair enough lol.

These past few seasons we've seen how teams with lots of starting transfers struggle with chemistry for a season, but then crush it the following season.

Guess we'll see how it goes. It's Rhules job on the line not mine!

Sorry if this is in wrong thread. Cole Payton, backup QB at NDSU. Would he be worthy of a roster spot if he’d enter the portal? Seeing very few snaps with the new HC this season. Not a P4 starter but a reliable backup? Have a couple empty seats in the QB room to fill. Thoughts?

I’d prefer to give all the backup reps to Lateef. One, to give him experience, two.. to give him more incentive not to hit the portal in a year.

Maybe before rosters got reduced to 105 players. Not now.

Some of the guys we lost are some of the top guys in the transfer portal. Zero bankable talent is just completely false.
Based solely on 247....I question their ability to gauge talent and their ratings. EJ is an 85... the following starters (wink wink) are rated higher Koby B, Jacob H, Isaiah M, A J Rollins and the list goes on. Unless I am reading or understanding how the ratings work, those mentioned can't hold EJ jockstrap. I am not saying that you are wrong because I do believe we lost some talent but we also have an opportunity to replace them with equal or better talent.

I thought Bretz could be a starter for us at some point. It's hard to judge some guys who haven't had much playing time yet. There's always a fascination with the unknown. Kind of like the backup QB.....

247 hasn't even updated their profiles on a lot of these guys. Which tells me they are basing their ranking mostly on high school. You want to call Princewill the #4 player in the portal? Fine. Breakdown his NU tape and provide a synopsis of his time here. Then it might make sense.

It's kind of like getting a TV announcer that covers NU once every 2 years. They likely know less than the average NU fan about our players. They are regurgitating cliff notes and notes from the coaches.

We have to find a QB. There is no other option. There's not going to be 2 walk ons waiting on the scout team who could step in and play in an emergency. A better option might have been to recruit 2 freshman scholarship guys this year. Maybe you put one of our current walk ons on scholarship but we have to get to at least 3 scholarship QBs PLUS an emergency guy in Haarberg. Personally I would go to 4 scholarship guys plus Haarberg. Find an experienced lower division guy who wants to get a masters degree at the very least. Most teams aren't in the numbers crunch that NU is and actually we aren't really that stressed trying to get down to 105. We'll have expendable players through the spring.

105 roster / 22 positions = 4 players for every position on the field, plus 17 leftover for special teams and adding 5th spot for several postions.
QB is important, so having 4-5 guys is totally within scope.
With some positions having overlapping skills (DBs, Guards, WR, DE), you get to maximize the competition for spots, so instead of 4 guys competing for LG, it’s really 8 guys competing for LG/RG.
While I had no problem with us running a larger walk on program, 105 is still plenty to make things happen… and every team is in that same boat.

At times I've seen PAC-12 teams have 7 QBs in camp. We really need to have 5
