Some insiders/fortune tellers are suggesting that Riley might be asked to stay on in the athletic department as some sort of AD intermediary/recruiting coordinator/quality control assistant/handshaker, do you think that should happen?
Now that he's been officially fired, I think the only way it could work is if he volunteered to stick around for a few months to help the new coach get to know the personnel and opponents and ease the transition that way. But I don't think an actual full-time gig would be in anyone's best interest. It would just be too awkward, especially if Riley's position was above the coach's in any sort of organizational chart.
I appreciate the hell out of the good things he did here, and I think his recruiting changes were hugely needed, but I'm not convinced it would work out this way. MAYBE if he would have "retired" a few weeks ago and finished out the year that way, but after getting fired it just doesn't make enough sense in my opinion.
