I read that a few Nebraska players kneeled for the anthem? Which ones were they and was there post game interview asking about it?

MRI, Berry and Neal. They approached Riley prior to the game to tell him they were doing it.

Read the book "Just Mercy" by Bryan Stevenson. I detest this form of protest, however, I understand it. Time for some real change. I just wish we could find a better way to go about it. (In before the lock.)

It's amazing to me that a thread like this will be locked. This is something directly relevant to the team and how it is handled and addressed by coaches and the community could go a long way in terms of the way this season plays out. This seems to me like yet another way to simply avoid discussing what it is that made them feel like kneeling for the anthem was something they needed to do.

Maurice in his pressor said MRI gave a very emotional speech to the team prior. The team all supported him but it was noted that several players put on American flag hats after the game,,
It should be noted that four other Huskers - offensive linemen Nick Gates and Sam Hahn, quarterback Zack Darlington, and kicker Drew Brown - helped hold the American flag on the field during the national anthem.

After the game, others like safeties Gerry and Kieron Williams were seen wearing American flag hats.

They get to use this disgusting form of disrespect because of people like me who have spent 45 years of my life defending this nation. If the team came on the field at Lincoln and even 1 of them disrespected what I've risked my life defending I would sell all remaining season tickets I have and not support these idiots. They can choose what they want to do, just as I can. They would play in front of an empty stadium for all I care. We aren't out on the field for the anthem so I guess that won't come in to play.

Did the TV broadcast catch the multiple times that both flags touched the ground? Will need somebody to weigh in on which is worse between that and taking a knee.

Also, I clapped and cheered through it the way we do for Blackhawks games because it was the guy who sings the anthem at the United Center. So I will need a 1-3 ranking of which makes the most bald eagles sad.

Your "last word before lock up" blows. Just freed up 3 scholarships as far as I am concerned. They can clean out their lockers and use all that free time for doing something constructive with their lives. Choosing the ultimate spit in the face of the nation defending them just because they can is as useless as your "enlightened" comments.

Can I get your stance on whether this should be allowed to continue in college football? TIA.

I don't understand a protest gesture that insults current and former servicemen and is done to send a message in regard to police. Gotta be another, more constructive action to take. And we are all well aware, so please, no more "just raising awareness"...

What they don't seem to realize is- they are the problem and they are the only ones who can change it. Instead of symbolically protesting get off your asses and change your behavior.

Love how ridiculous this chick is. "AMERICA IS AWESOME BECAUSE NOBODY IS ALLOWED TO MAKE YOU SHUT UP AND KEEP YOUR OPINION TO YOURSELF, SO SHUT UP AND KEEP YOU OPINION TO YOURSELF!!!"

You'll need to get the veterans and active duty to agree that they've been disrespected first. Most common response I've seen from them is, "No, this is exactly what I fight for. Not my job to agree with it, but precisely my job to protect it."

Sadly, we are going to continue to see this for a while. This 'movement' has entered the realm of social media and more and more ignorant (mostly young) people will continue to kneel, raise fists, etc. during the anthem because social media and the mainstream media have made it 'cool' and 'right'. All the protesting individuals need to have their moment to make themselves feel important (and make sure to get a picture of yourself doing to post on facebook!!).

Just going to say it and hope it gets locked up afterwards.

I served (a number of years ago) to protect people's right to do this kind of thing. If you don't think America is strong enough to survive and accept this kind of peaceful protest then you don't know America or what it's about.

Now please lock it up boys.
A rare voice of reason on here. Thanks for posting.

Plenty of injustice going on in this would my friend, and you bring up anther great example. My focus this morning was centered on my disgust of the fashion in which players are now choosing to vent their disgust on perceived racial discrimination. I don't deny for a moment that we as a nation need to better understand and bring light to our racial issues. My disgust is the manner in which we currently are doing it. There has to be a more constructive manner to protest their hatred for our culture.

Why lock it? So feelings don't get hurt?

Seems like an ok thread thus far.

I support the anthem & what it stands for, but curious as to other opinions as it's now bled into the college game.

Which is ironic, because the 'suppressed' are getting a free American college education for playing a game.

Well, if you've taken stats class you know that just because you can find some outliers, it doesn't mean the entire correlation is negated.

I still don't get it. There a couple other life/death issues for which I've demonstrated. Would never have chosen a tactic that has the obvious potential to be hurtful to some who have paid such a heavy price. Just think these guys need to do something more specific and useful for the cause. JMO

They're not facing the flag and flipping the bird, or turning and pulling their pants down. Get over it. Or do you also lose your mind when you see athletes wear the flag as a cape at the olympics?

I find it humorous when people tell other people how they're allowed to feel and how they're allowed to express themselves, especially regarding an experience that the commenter likely doesn't understand. In this case, I've seen lots of facebook posts criticizing protests like those in charlotte by comparing them to MLK (white people'a favorite black guy) and arguing that people should protest peacefully. Then when athletes protest peacefully by kneeling on the ground it's "disgusting" and they should lose their scholarships.

Waaaa.

What is the correct tactic?

Yes, I would like all those outraged by this to provide a mechanism of protest or demonstration that would be acceptible in their minds and which would also be effective. I would imagine, rather than providing actual ideas here, they will change the subject and opine about how the players are wrong and institutional racism isn't a legitimate problem because Chicago.

Pretty much.

I come here to get away from the rest of the world and worry about something silly like football. I get enough of the rest of the world throughout my day. But when I come here we all have a common cause. This is just a topic to decide us.

Don't think for a minute that this isn't important to me but I'd still fight today for people's right to protest (although my knees might not agree).

I'm just glad that it at least seems our team can still be united and mature about this. Good leadership by the coaches and captains.

I agree. I strongly disagree with what they are doing and I wish they wouldn't do it, but I think all involved handled it about as well as they could have. I was glad to see they didn't show it on TV though-no reason to give them any more publicity than they already get.

How much for your tickets? I'll give you $10 to take them off your hands so you don't have to support these disgusting individuals.

If a player is too tired to stand, he is too tired to play. That's why they have benches.

What about the fans who don't stand at games or scream their lungs out on a big 3rd down? Is that equally disgusting? I mean, the players are sacrificing their minds and body for your enjoyment after all.

The same way people let those fans choose to express their support for the team how they see fit, shouldn't they let the players choose how they want to protest police brutality?

Why would I lock it? Im participating in the thread. As long as people can control their emotions and not resort to childish name calling we are good to go.

Don`t ever attend a Dodger game in LA then.

What would the side lines look like if players began to protest gang brutality?
There can be multiple problems people are concerned with at the same time. There are a lot of rallies and protests about ending gang violence, they just aren't covered in media because they dont make people uncomfortable and keep them watching. So many people controlled by the media, it's getting ridiculous how easy it is for mass media to program people.
