Yeah, we still need to get a good big DT, OT would be nice but if I am making a list DT is now currently the top need.
Pay what it takes, IMO.
When's the last time we had a big OL Juco or Transfer player like Carl Nicks, Alex Lewis or Ricky Henry?
They will bring a OT in. May not be worth a shit but I'll be shocked if they didn't.

Not good. We have little talent on our roster at this position and have now missed out on two key transfers. Donovan must not be all that great at recruiting. He can’t seem to close the deal. We are very average on the line and at running back. Don’t expect a strong running game next year.
And please don’t tell me we DO have talent at offensive tackle. If that were true we wouldn’t be going after these transfers.
People say we are once again winning the off season. Maybe we are given our portal ranking. But anybody with eyes to see can see that we are in trouble on the offensive line. Does not bode well for next season.

It would be interesting to know if this was a money issue, or something else.
I think we have guys who could be better at OT than Pete would have been for us. I'm not going to start a food fight by saying why I believe that. You only take guys who you're sure are better than what you have and that you're sure have the work ethic to be successful.
Some of these transfer portal deals remind me of the picture of two cows on opposite side of a fence. Both have their heads stuck through the fence to eat grass on each other's sides.

he could provide experienced depth and may be more likely to play guard than tackle. You don't probably turn him away if he wants to come back. There's a fair chance he would end up on an NFL practice squad if he stays healthy.
To say that we missed out on three guys who were being recruited by almost everyone so therefore the OL coach isn't great at recruiting is a little harsh. That's an entirely different level of recruiting. And that's not even counting the fact that NU did bring in one of the four OT's they were after. Potentially the best of the bunch.
We do have talent at offensive tackle. Gottula played well and will get better, Pritchett was a top 100 guy and obviously has talent. Brix, Pyle and Marks are all talented but young. The coaches just wanted to get older in the line. Period. Recruiting over some good young kids is a sign of the times now. It was the media and message boards that exaggerated the need. We'll be fine. Hell, Teddy might still come back as well. He's a wildcard at this point.
I think that NU wants Corcoran on the interior to see what he can do. That's always been his more natural position anyway. I would much rather have a good offensive guard with Corcoran than a stop gap left tackle trying to hold his own.
Rhule and Dana both emphasized that just because a transfer kid visits doesn't mean he has an committable offer.
Idgaf I he has a clean rap sheet or not. Is he without warrants and can he play tackle. Otherwise Idgaf about the other stuff.

I would like to see what he could do as a 6' 6" 315 pound, 24 year old offensive guard. His pass and run blocking should be better with guys on both sides of him.
I have always thought Corcoran would make a better guard than a tackle. But damn, his injury was a bad one. I spoke to his girlfriend at The Brazen Tavern before the pinstripe bowl. She said his hamstring had completely torn away from the bone and was also torn itself. So I ain’t no doctor but I do wonder how long it will take him to come back from that. Furthermore, when you severely rip up a muscle like that scar tissue forms and that area will always be prone to reinjury.
Brix, Pyle and Marks have proven nothing so far. They are total unknowns. And I’m not buying the recruiting over youth excuse. Notre Dame has a beast of a starting offensive tackle and he is a freshman. Our young guys might be talented. I sure as hell hope they are. Because they need to be or we are in a world of hurt. But given our past ten years of total suckitude I am in 100% prove it to me mode at this point. I am not going to listen to anything that comes out of the mouths of our coaches in the off season. Been there done that. I will only believe we have young talent on our line when they prove it.
Let's see how things shake out with Dana calling the plays and having a full off-season. A good OC can make his offensive line look pretty good. I liked our blitz pickup vs. BC. Gottula played hurt for the last few games. I think we're gonna be fine. I agree with you regarding the comment about ND's freshman tackle. I've been advocating for playing the young kids. I really believe that we've got some good young kids in the program.
Ultimately, the best plan should be developing your linemen in house at a place like Nebraska and using the portal for skill positions and 2nd, 3rd level defenders. Teams seem set on keeping their linemen out of the portal. The pickings is slim.
It is extremely hard to believe we don’t have anyone better by now.

Ideally NU would like to have 8-9 guys ready to play. The younger kids were littering the depth chart all season long. Pritchett, Luto, Jenkins, Gottula, Brix, Sledge, Knaak plus possibly Teddy P and Corcoran are the top suspects. Seagren and Maciejczak are also possibles. I would think that for most teams, only the kids who the coaches know will never be ready to play in conference games are encouraged to leave. And that's hard to know until a linemen has been in the program for a couple of years.

As far as walk-ons go, that Seagran kid has come a long way since coming to NU as a tight end from Oakland-Craig. He's still maturing and he's a good athlete.Couple small things.

He’s interesting. Worked his way up to second string on the depth chart as a RS Freshman. I’m afraid these are the kinds of kids we won’t have room to take fliers on moving forward.

The 105 limit is 20 more than the old scholarship limit. I would think an athletic kid who could grow from a TE to an OT would be just the type of priority for 1 of those 20 spots. These type of kids either make their way to inside the old 85 limit or eventually they’re playing elsewhere or they’re not playing football.
