Consider me anxious for the game tonight. Penn State has a middling RPI at the moment, but it would be a big game to win on the road. Per NCAA specs, it would be a Quadrant 2 win at the moment, which we need to try and stockpile.
They have a nice roster honestly; if it were me, I'd say they are significantly underachieving at the moment. There is no reason they should've lost at home to Wisconsin and Rider. Both head scratchers.
All 5 starters average double digits. Mike Watkins can be an athletic beast down low; he's a solid offensive presence, but I think he's more impactful defensively. Hopefully we can pull him out of the paint tonight with the smaller lineups. Tony Carr and Josh Reaves concern me on offense. Reaves is a very well rounded player; Carr is a dynamic scorer. Lamar Stevens and Shep Garner round out the starters and both are also big threats. They don't have much beyond the starting 5; their 'second' unit doesn't really consist of anything more than 2 guys, so depth and fatigue could be an issue. Foul trouble could also hurt them badly.
I honestly don't love how we match up at least with the starters. I think Taylor will draw Carr, Palmer on Reaves, Watson on Garner. Stevens and Watkins will depend on if Roby starts or who replaces Jordy. I don't like the Watkins matchup for anyone really. Roby and Copeland will both struggle to keep him off the glass and I am really, really concerned with offensive rebounds by PSU in this one.
