Patterson - Ole Miss QB to Michigan

Won't he have to sit out a year? He isn't a graduate transfer... and although they technically have a new coach... they hired the interim coach right? It's not like they are switching offensive schemes from Pro Style to Option if they just hired the interim coach that was there all season. Maybe someone with better understanding of the transfer rules can weigh in.

Under NCAA rules, Patterson would have to sit out a year. However, with the recent sanctions, which included a second consecutive bowl ban for the 2018 season, handed down to the Rebels by the NCAA, Patterson may be able to petition to play right away for the Wolverines. Ole Miss rising seniors are permitted to transfer without restriction since the bowl ban covers their final year of eligibility.

thanks for the reply.... it looks like the NCAA will have a ton of discretion in deciding what to do. although I hate Michigan... I think the transfer rules where players have to sit out a full season are bogus

Can you imagine how many players would be transferring if there wasn't a rule? A freshman who doesn't get to play, anyone just up and leaves, what a mess in your roster turnover. Would it be best for the kids and their education as well? Sitting out a year makes you think twice about leaving and possibly just work harder.

I do agree with the idea of letting student/athletes transfer when a school goes on probation. Currently it favors the seniors but if they let more transfer when there are truly sanctions there would be the equivalent of the death penalty from the implosions.

I think he’ll have to sit out. For our sake let’s hope. Keep it within a couple TD’s.

Doesn't matter. Harbaugh will have his head so screwed up that he won't know which way is up.

Yeah, I suppose there has to be some sort of rule... but it is way too restrictive sometimes. Coaches and admins are free to go but a player gets severely punished by losing an entire year.

Meatchicken got the QB they need to actually get past third and fourth participation ribbons in the East. If he can play right away and get two years of work in, they could get a division runner up and a division title by the time he is done. That is the glaring hole on that side of the ball, he is a darn good fix to it.

Harbs needs to focus on beating OSU and MSU first, then winning the East, then the Big 10, before any National title talk. So far, Urban and Dantonio own his ass.
Big time coaches attract Big time players, this is as big a deal as Russell Wilson going to Wisconsin.

Jumping the gun a little aren't you... Time will tell if he will be as good as Russell Wilson.

Harbaugh rubs me the wrong way as well .. but he has been there 3 years finished 12th and 10th in the nation + a group of 6 bowl game - this includes having his team controlling its own destiny as far as a national championship is concerned the last game of the season last year.

People act like finishing 3rd in the east division and being ranked 10th in the nation is the same as finishing 3rd in the west division.

Super excited about Frost - but I doubt if you add up Nebraksa's wins in years 2, 3 and 4 they will equal or surpass Harbaugh's win totals in years 1,2 and 3.
