Good to hear. Normally I'm not a fan of coaches complaining about officiating, but when it's something that glaring on a crucial play, they get a pass from me.
It was a terrible no call but no one outside Nebraska cares because it happened to a three win team.
Might have helped if Betts would have argued it some and asked for a flag.
If I was him I would have said "you know what, I just gave up a million dollars, who cares about another 10 grand..."
That's what it comes down to. Big Ten protecting its championship game. Didn't want a three-loss team potentially spoiling TV ratings and eliminating any possibility of a team in the CFPO if they upset Ohio State/Michigan.
So I have told my QB's for years (and any player really),
"you get touched near the sidelines, start freaking out, you might get us a flag"

Not a penalty if the refs don’t call it. If we don’t give up an opening KO TD and tackle Allen we win. We fixate on calls when other things lost us the game.
Can we just stop with this. Yes, we had other chances to win the game, but the fact remains that our WR was interfered with on that play. Had he not been, he may have caught it for a TD (or at least a 1st down). If it had been called, we'd have a fresh set of downs. NU fans have every right to be pissed. That terrible non-call could have very well cost us the game.
I think the refs were cold and had seen enough of our games to know that we weren’t going to do anything with that call anyway.

I would understand if this was a one time thing. Remember a few years ago when Jordan Westerkamp got absolutely tackled going out for a 4th down pass in a game we lost in overtime. That was also at the end of the game. The announcers called out the refs on that no-call as well. It’s not the exception, it’s Wisconsin.
Agreed - likely the shittiest in all divisions - yet Wisconsin lines up and beats most in the shit division while Nebraska loses 3 for every victory they squeak out.

Big Ten refs are just awful at their jobs. That's all it is, they are genuinely terrible for no good reason.
Fans are also ignoring the fact that Martinez would likely have just thrown a pick the next play anyway.
First of all I thought with the big exception of 6 or so plays (opening kick-off) the Huskers played pretty darn well. They did not get blown out when they easily could have laid an egg. Was anyone surprised that Wisconsin running back Allen got the ball on the play where he scored his last touchdown? Chryst wasn't going pass at that point. It was going to be a run. Was anyone surprised an O Lineman got a penalty on the Huskers last drive? Was anyone surprised the Big Ten officials did not call pass interference on the last play? Sadly these are the things I've grown accustom to while watching the Huskers play. .
It was a terrible miss by the officials. I have never bought the notion that officials know (or are in) on who is supposed to win a game so that the conference can get the championship game they want. I just don't believe that's true and if it were, someone would have spilled those beans somewhere along the way.
That said, I do believe the officiating is terrible at times. I believe it's just human error and people who aren't always good at their jobs....akin to players who make stupid mistakes at the most inopportune times.
It's not a conspiracy, the refs just suck. And it's magnified for us since our team is terrible so you can always point to the 1-2 calls a game that totally cornhole us.

Yep, that was a BS no call. I can see refs not wanting to throw that flag on a close call, but that wasn’t close at all. That was textbook DPI
If Betts woulda tried a little harder to catch the ball and sell the call we mighta got the flag.

Hate to say this... Don't know how many times NU was in the red zone, and Martinez threw high. Seems his adrenaline goes up and hinders him at big moments. He's tough, good, and has stats, but sadly not a real winner (at least on this level). Don't want to call him a choke, but he just lacks dead eye consistency and killer instinct. Had we got the TD and they'd gone for two, probably not successful. All blame SF, but a lot of our losses are on the QB he put there, one way or another.
When you get tackled as you jump for the ball, there's nothing to sell.
Some things should sell themselves and a clear DPI is one of them...
I would prefer to see Nebraska win regardless of record.
