Similar: Coming off losing seasons for new coaches who replaced flawed but somewhat successful coaches. (NO I'M NOT A BOBOT AND I'M HAPPY PELINI WAS FIRED! NOT SO MUCH WITH SOLICH).

Similar: Lost last game of the season at home against rival in pretty ugly fashion. It's not hard to believe that if the 2004 team would have been given a bowl, they might have ended the season better too.

Similar: Both teams really thin on the DL in 2005 and 2016.

Similar: Experiencing a resurgence in recruiting that has everyone excited, masking some of the disappointment of the previous season.

Similar: New athletic director trying to put his mark on the program with his guy at the helm.

Different: 4 year starter at QB returning for 2016 opposed to new JUCO transfer in 2005.

Different: More young talent on the OL and more overall talent at WR in 2016 than in 2005.

Different: Performance in 2015 resulted in a lot of close losses as opposed to a lot of blowouts in 2004.

Different: In 2016, a head coach with a bazillion years of college experience, who was the ADs first choice as opposed to a fired NFL coach with no college HC experience in 2005.

Different: A HC in 2016 who seems to be willing to let go non-performing coaches.

Can you think of others, similar or different. To be fair, think about how you might have felt about the situation in 2005 and not in retrospect after Callahan was fired.
