I've lived in and around Wichita for 10 years now. I'm not one to complain about the town as it suits my needs and I now live 20 minutes out.
Anyways, my 6 year old wanted to go see the Keeper of the Plains (big statue on the river) light up tonight so me and the 3 boys went downtown, ate in Delano and then walked down around the river. The amount of trashy people down there was alarming. Kids rolling blunts, preteens dropping f bombs, and just people who have no regard to cleanliness.
As we left, I noticed a lot of cars from out of state and thought to myself, "If I were visiting this for the 1st time how disappointing this would be." Kudos to whomever tried to make the Keeper and that area informative and interesting but between the morons and the graffiti it's hard to justify bringing a family down there to enjoy.
The best part of that area is the veterans park honoring war veterans, but it's sad to see the disrespect shown by people that have decided to desecrate the memorials. What could have been with that river. It's a shame.
