Not that anybody on here cares about Oklahoma State but I am looking forward to seeing the Husker spring game so I can make some comparisons.
We got a full tour of the facilities. I would grade them somewhere between A- and A. The locker room is very big and very new. Walking around the offices and locker rooms I found some of the decor kind of cheesy but part of that is their colors. Orange just sticks out every where. The weight room is HUGE. The guy giving us the tour said it's the biggest in the nation and I believe it. And it's a football only weight room. The training room was really really nice. The athletes' cafeteria was also very big and new, seating 300 kids. It was once football only but now other sports use it. The field runs East to West which is really weird. All of the football facilities except practice fields are connected to the west side of the stadium.
Probably the reason it doesn't get an A+ is because you have to walk across a semi-busy 4 lane street to get to the practice facilities. Indoor facility is pretty standard but no built in stereo system and no seating. 3 outdoor practice fields. 2 Grass, 1 Turf.
On to the practice. It was long. 30 minute "pre practice" walk-thru. Then a 2 1/2 hour practice. As you can imagine the practice is geared more towards the offense.
Their starting RT is a monster 6'8", 325. LT is 6'7" 310. They had a huge TE. Their most impressive player by far is the Washington kid at receiver. He's clearly an NFL kid and somebody I doubt Nebraska has anybody like. Their defense was in an odd front. They had a good looking OLB...6'5 260 kid that looked like a player but besides that..pretty undersized. You have to take defenses with a grain of salt in the Big 12 b/c nobody stops anybody. QB has a quick release and the OL looks good in pass pro but really struggled running the ball. They only have 4 RBs in spring camp. Probably 1 running play to every 4 pass plays on the script that day.
So to the oddest part and I would like to ask @Sean Callahan about this. How involved is Riley in practice?? I realize that it's the Head Coach's job to delegate and monitor everything going on. But Gundy takes it to a whole different level. Pre-practice started at 3, he got out there at about 3:30 (during agility/stretch) he spoke with Brandon Weeden (former player) for about 20-30 minutes and then stood on the sideline and watched indy periods. Then he took a walkie-talkie, went up stairs by the camera guys and watched the rest of practice. He literally didn't say a word to any players until practice was completely over and he addressed the entire team.
His mullet is pretty impressive and they guy clearly is a dang good coach..b/c he wins a lot of games but a very odd way of going about a practice IMO.
