The shooter was convicted of assault in 2012 and received a bad conduct discharge in 2014. Apparently because of the assault he lost the right to purchase firearms and the Air Force NEVER SUBMITTED THE PAPERWORK!!!!! Because of the Air Force's failure he was able to purchase the rifle at a gun store without being flagged by the background search. A complete and unforgivable failure by the Air Force. No idea how often this happens, but there better be a sh** storm across the branch to address.
My heart sunk even further knowing that not submitting paperwork could have had an effect on this.
