Took my son to buy a used car yesterday.

Sales are sales, so I am told. Does this sound familiar in your industry?

Subaru = Take away sale. She didn’t care if we bought or not. Attentive, informed but no pressure. Told us she’d reach out if the price goes down but they don’t negotiate on price. Had other clients so she rushed us out the door.

Audi = Had an older A4 we wanted to see. Took them ten minutes to acknowledge us. Didn’t have a ton to say. Showed us the car but indifferent until I indicated I might be in the market for a newer car, then the big boss came over. Basically, these cars sell themselves is the vibe I got. They also said, we don’t negotiate price.

Nissan = super aggressive!! Guy starts off with you didn’t tell me you were coming. Makes us fill out paperwork just to see a car. Kept my kid’s car keys even after they looked at it for the trade-in value. Never told us how much, even after asking what they’d give us for his car. Obviously, they did this so they could keep showing us a “special car” or “a new idea”. Told us the owner is here and likes us and wants to make a deal. One guy bragged about his sales awards. At one point, I told my son, we should probably walkout but let’s stick around for a couple minutes to see what they come up with.

No judgement, just an observation.
