This is a totally new situation for me, so I'm not sure what the situation is. I have two drains in the basement - one in the utility area and a shower drain.

I discovered the other day that both appeared to have backed up, flowed back. I can't tell the difference.

Here is what I know:
  • We were out of town for a week, and I know it rained hard at least twice while we were gone.
  • I didn't go into the basement for a couple days after coming home, so not sure when it happened.
  • The day after we got back we were doing laundry and I did notice a different smell in the home.
  • We are expecting HEAVY rain this evening.
Could this be due to rain, or more likely something internally that needs to be resolved, i.e. a clogged pipe? If it is possible it was due to heavy rain, I want to get someone out right away today, if possible.

Any help you can provide would be appreciated. TIA
