First off let me say & that I'm not looking for sympathy for anything of the sort. I screwed up & It's on my. Most of you know me as a Fire Cat. & small business owner. I'm posting this thread for a sort of PSA. I'm a certified safety officer at work & well, I got in a hurry on Friday while at home. I was headed out to a 7 hour Sparky's presentation and noticed that I had a gutter clogged as it was starting to rain. I threw up a ladder (as I've done dozens of times over my 28 year career). As I was coming down, my right foot slipped off the 2nd rung & I slipped off. My wedding ring got hooked on the top & de-gloved my left ring finger. You'll notice my ring finger is noticeable shorter. I never wear my rings at work or when I'm doing things like this but I screwed up. Point being that you should always take that extra minute just to be safe. From all reports we might be able to save the finger but I pretty much shredded everything in my hand from tendons, to veins, to arteries to nerves. 6-8 weeks of sick leave and numerous surgeries. Be safe out there when you do anything. Take the extra minute. The first pic is after 1 hour & the 2nd pic is after 4 days.

Not sure if I want to see your gruesome injury, but I see no pic. You may be wiser to just post a link to the pic anyways. Sorry to hear that. Good luck on your healing completely.

Ouch. (Pictures didn't load for me on my pc)
Hope you recover full use of your hand.
You are correct. Taking an extra minute to be safe is always better.

I never take off my wedding ring and I work on the house, cars and my hog all the time. I couldn't see your pictures, but don't need to, I will take my ring off from now on. - thanks

Still not able to see the pics. If you can figure out a way to make them visible in the thread, my wife would like to see them. Shes an HR/ safety manager and uses things like this to preach safe behavior.

That being said, I wish you a full and speedy recovery!!

Dang it. The links aren't working? Scroll down a little bit to the links. OK I need a little help here.

Unlike many of the others here, I couldn't force myself to look at the pics even if the links worked.

Very sorry to hear this. I hope the surgeons can fix you up as close to new as possible.

I'm not trying to hijack this thread, but I would suggest that anyone with a chain net who has kids old enough to jump and grab the chains take them down. I caught my middle finger as a freshman in high school and am lucky it only stripped it to the bone and they were able to stitch it back up.

Thankfully my dad preached this to me for years. He played basketball with a guy that got his ring caught on the rim and degloved his finger.

Tip- put your wedding ring on your key ring when you take it off for working/sports/etc. It is an easy way to make sure you don't lose it.

I am sorry or your problems dude, totally sucks. Totally, and I really hope you heal quickly and without continuing issues.

I know everyone is different and for me, I could never take pics and post them without getting pretty light headed. Several years ago I played soccer with some very serious dudes and volunteered to play goalie, seemed like the hot spot so I said WTF, I'll try it. I dived on a ball in a pile without wearing gloves and had my digits stepped on by a cleat and tore my fingers up pretty bad, only thing holding them on was the skin. We go to the doctor starts talking about the pin he's going to insert, etc, he saw me about to pass out and he stopped and said "Do you just want me to fix those and stop talking"? YUP!!!!

I have no idea how guys like you do what you do, but I am thankful you guys exist. I could never stomach the gore you guys must deal with, God gave you guys a chromosome I didn't get.

I echo the sentiments of healing up quick and not being able to see the pics.

sometimes I can stomach that kind of stuff, other times I could end up a little queasy.
