My son (and myself as coach) just made the jump from Little League to Babe Ruth. Which means going from 60' base paths to 90' and 46' from rubber to plate to the full 60'6".
Crazy!
We are playing in the 13 Year-Old Prep league, so are jumping to the big barrel bats now as well. That means that the $175 Easton S1 that I bought him last year, with a 2 1/4" barrel, is not allowed. Doh.
So the bat has to be 2 /58" barrel and if composite, must be BBCOR rated.
I've done a ton of research and my son has swung a few bats at the batting cage. So we've developed an opinion on what we like best. My son is a 2nd base type kid, smaller lead off contact hitter. We have settled into a few composite bats, looking for the bigger sweet spot and more pop. I'm aware of the break in period, which is fine and will only take a day at the cages.
We are still debating the "one piece" vs. "two piece" bat. Thinking that the one piece is a bit better for a contact hitter.
But before I take the plunge on a bat, and knowing that good ol' RSS has some of the best experts on pretty much everything in the universe, including top level hitting coaches, I thought I'd get your opinion about youth big barrel ("Senior League") bats.
Care to give your opinion about Composite vs. Alloy vs. Hybrid?
If you have a favorite big barrel bat model, please lay it on me!
