End of an era, I grew up near there and that building holds a ton of memories for me from my first bowling, to playing tennis in there with buddies while sucking down diesel fumes, to my brother-in-law and I going to coordinate the firing detail for my dad's funeral. The story of that building is far bigger though:
"They assembled Enola Gay and Bockscar, the modified B-29s that dropped atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki 70 years ago this week. Japan surrendered within days.
Seven decades later, only a few workers are still alive. Now it appears the plant itself is nearing the end of its life. 55th Wing officials plan to demolish the Martin complex in the next few years, in part to keep up with an Air Force cost-cutting directive to reduce the number of buildings it maintains."
