I've got a leaky Evaporator Coil on a Lennox unit installed in 2016 with 2 months left under part warranty.
I have been charged $50 (I also pay $200/yr discount club) to come to the house, $196 to diagnose the leak and just received the quote for the repair. They want $656 to replace the Coil and $607 to charge the unit with 3lbs r410a and then another $276 for the remaining 2lbs refrigerant.
$245 visit and diagnose
$656 replace (part under warranty)
$607 recharge
$276 for 2 lbs refrigerant
$1784 total
My biggest issue was they would not give me a parts, material, and labor breakdown so I called them and asked for it again. I believe they are double charging me on a portion of labor and the refrigerant is way too high. I've price it elsewhere at $50/lb and $74/lb.
Got off the phone with the owner (who I know personally) and it did not go well. He tells me they charge $195/hr labor and $138/Lb for refrigerant and I could name the price I feel is appropriate. Both of those seem very high.... how off base am I?
