I've had my current dryer (electric) for the last 15 years. It was my mother-in-law's. Upon receipt, I took it apart and cleaned it. Still running great today.
I had an electric dryer when I was younger that was a hand me down from my in-laws. The element burned out at one end so I took the whole thing apart and just stretched it out so it would reach and reattached it. Worked like a charm for years. I eventually sold it on an auction when we moved. They're getting too complicated to fix now without buying expensive parts.
