After seeing all the Fall Camp updates on HO and others, I started to get a little too enthusiastic about college football and sought out open practices on Cal Bears dot com (I live in Oakland). Turns out they have a few per week in which they invite the public, so my daughter and I caught a scrimmage on Saturday.
I don't know much about Cal football. I will say this, Wilcox brought on quality coordinators in Deruyter and Baldwin. Baldwin should keep the offensive scheme consistent with what Dykes built while Wilcox and Deruyter can start to build a defensive culture there.
The schedule is brutal though. And they didn't have a Davis Webb fall in their laps this year. They seemed to be rotating 4 QBs in with the first offense as if they haven't landed on a guy, which isn't a great sign at this point. 2017 might not be pretty.
Regardless, I like how we would stack up physically against this lower tier PAC team. Not sure if that inspires confidence, that we have a better bus game than Cal, but it's something.
In short, they were moving around well out there.
