That last sentence explains everything. A Rottweiler from a bad situation who is also great with dogs is an unusual combination. You must be doing a fantastic job with that dog.

Don't know exactly on the mix as they come from Anatolian rescues. The almost 2 year old male is about 115 lbs and the 6 year old female is about 130 lbs but she is a chunk-ass.
It’s sucks at the time but when you look back it was the right decision, been through it 3 times, right now we have a rescue dog mixed breed she’s just about 1 year old and a German shepherd pup who hasn’t been weaned yet but we did pick him out .
Supposedly 10-12 years. She just started to have an insane amount of problems and we couldn't watch her suffer anymore. The vet assured us it was time and that she would probably go very soon anyways. She had a suspected stroke about 3 months ago and it took it out of her. With that said she did have a great life. We took her everywhere and she was well cared for and lived a life of luxury for an animal.
We will probably get another one in 6 months or so. We want to focus on the puppy for a bit before we go that route, but if my wife and kids have their say we will probably own another one in the next month. Lol.
The CCL surgery we did on my Cattle Dog was very successful. Make sure you keep your dog on the leaner side as much as you can. Will help with the recovery. Mine was a little overweight before his surgery. I dont let him run much or catch frisbees or anything anymore, but he lives pain free and is very mobile. They say 50% of the time the other knee will go on them, so I am holding out hope. He was 5 or 6 when he got the surgery and is 8 now. Still going strong.
Just gonna put my plug in here for the australian cattle dog as the ultimate dog. Ive had 2 now. Blue and now a red. Also got the Cairn Terrier which is a fierce little dude, and is the ultimate lap dog who will still throw down with the big dogs when he wants.
Sorry to read this and sorry for your loss, man. One of the worst things to have to go through.
My Frenchie died fairly suddenly in June. He was 11 but it came out of the blue. By far the hardest thing I've ever been through in my life. I've had a lot of different dogs. Different breeds. I've lost some good dogs. I've lost some great dogs. Hell, I've lost some great people. But this one hit completely different. I'm still struggling with it, although it's gotten better with time.
That said, I will never not own Frenchies exclusively for the rest of my life. They are truly the best breed. I know that particular one I lost was on a whole other level of special dogs, like one in a million. But Frenchies overall are the greatest.
Got a new Frenchie puppy about a month ago. It's helped with the loss, but certainly can't/won't replace the one that died. But he's a good dog so far and I'm happy to have him.
Went through the same thing with both my frenchies. poor little guys seem to be prone to back issues.

No doubt about it on their back issues. They're prone to all kinds of issues as backyard breeders and puppy mills have tried to ruin the breed. I spent just shy of $20K in vet bills on the one that died. He had a herniated disk a couple years ago that needed emergency surgery. Then he died from a brain aneurysm that I couldn't save him from, despite every effort. Both issues caused from irresponsible breeding. Breathing problems are another big one with Frenchies. Still wouldn't trade them for any other breed.
Paid extra for the new puppy that's really well bread. Hoping that mitigates some of those predisposed issues.
I remember growing up my dad (redneck who grew up in poverty) said we're not spending much on any dog. If they have too many problems a .22 round is just a few cents. Luckily he never had to do that but he did give away a pitbull mix to a farm owner after it snapped and almost bit a ladies face.
Yep. It's weird, I'm the same way. Not really an emotional person and it takes something above and beyond to make me get there, but with her it did. You know they are truly part of the family when it crushes you like that.
Yes, the great bernese is s mix between the mtn dog and a pyarnees.
I like big dogs. I travel a lot and I have a pretty wife and 3 little boys. It was nice knowing i had a 160lb newfie there when I was gone.

I lost my Maso (English/Cane Corso) Mastiff in August. He was my fourth Mastiff and I told myself it would be the last one. After four months of being depressed, I drove to Ohio and got an American (English/Anatolian) Mastiff just before Christmas. He instantly cured my illness!
I must say, however, that Christmas puppies sound great until you realize all the extra work it entails around the already crazy holidays.
I agree with those who recommend the in-home euthanasia. It's so much better for the dog (and was for me), being surrounded by family and friends.
Mastiff personalities and traits mesh perfectly with my own, and their constant vigilance/protection is reassuring, particularly in the backcountry, where I spend lots of time. I'll never have another breed but the shorter lifespan is a bummer. My last two only made it 8 years, but they were great years, and I would do it all over again, like I am now.

So sorry for your loss. We’ve had two dogs put down-old age. Heartbreaking. At some point, relief of their suffering is more important than your fear of losing them. We have a bernedoodle now. Incredibly sweet just like our previous dogs.
Man you’re not kidding. I hadn’t had a true puppy since I was a kid. Forgot how much work they are. Two speeds…zero (sleeping) or 100 (the rest of the time). Whew
