Anyone else hate negotiating with your cable/satellite provider when your promotional rate expires? Me too. What kind of deals are you guys getting? Please include your sports packages if applicable.

I disconnected from Directv and the wife and I are doing PlayStation Vue to try it for a month...so far, we're pretty happy with both Vue & Netflix and with the announcement that Vue will get NFL RedZone, I don't see myself going back.

That said, I did call Directv back out of curiousity to see what kind of "welcome back" package they would offer me. Here's what they included if I'd agree to a new, 2-year contract with the Choice Xtra package:

New equipment (Genie HD-DVR for main tv, Genie mini HD-DVR for 2nd tv)

NFL Sunday ticket max free for a year

Premium movie channels free for 3 months

First year, $68/month (tax included)...if you add in a "refer a friend" deal, that's an additional $10 off for 10 months. 2nd year, it jumps back up $30-40...I think she said I'd be right at $100.

Didn't take the deal as I said I would need to consult with my wife and like I said above, we're both pretty content paying the $35/month for PlayStation Vue

This is the only first hand advice I can give. Make sure you are talking with the company itself and not a third party contractor. I guess I wasn't paying close enough attention to the web address and didn't even think of asking if it was a 3rd party contractor.

We ended up signing up with directtv through a 3rd party. Best I could get through them was a standard deal. Once I signed up through the 3rd party, directtv refused to talk about negotiation.

Ok I am somewhat of a neophyte to this stuff, but for this Playstation Vue I am assuming that you need a Playstation game console to watch this huh? As I am a grown man with a full time job and only a daughter as a child I don't know what a playstation cost these days.

To pull the plug on the cable and dish guys what type of setup works best?

Nope a $30 Amazon Fire TV Stick gets you Playstation Vue...which even without PS Vue, the Fire Stick rocks.

I went with the Fire TV ($99) and it works awesome. I have been using PS Vue for 2 months now and have had minor issues so far. The only thing that has caused issues is the DVR'd shows sometimes randomly skip forward in the show or don't record properly. I have really only noticed this on the DIY channel though. I have a PS3 and prefer the fire TV interface over the PS3 interface. I'd recommend PS Vue to anyone.

It does play on Playstation obviously, but you don't need a Playstation per se....the service also streams on Roku, Chromecast, Amazon Fire TV

I canceled DirecTV a few months ago and they have been sending me a reconnect offer of 19.99 per month for their crappy tier (no ESPN/BTN) as well as a $200 gift card. BUT they also want you in a new 2-year contract.

I haven't talked to them about what kind of a deal they could give me on the Choice tier, which is the one you need for Husker games. I like that you can suspend your account when it's not football season, but I hate that you lose signal if it rains hard or snow gets on the dish. This time of year they'll usually give you NFL Sunday Ticket for free.

Will be trying out PlayStation Vue pretty soon. In the Chicago area it costs $44.99 for the package with BTN and they include local channels.

Definitely recommend that you hardwire an ethernet cable to any device you will use to stream video. Our Xbox 360 sits in the same bedroom with a router, some days it works perfectly and some days it's unwatchable, just buffers over and over. Last night it did it all of a sudden after it had worked just fine for the last 45 minutes. Plenty of bandwidth on my service, nobody else using the internet, just that device. It boggles the mind...

Can you watch it from a computer? If you had a laptop with an HDMI output, that would spare you from having to buy another device.
