OT- Bitcoin

I want to learn

I always have an open mind & am constantly convinced of things here and in daily life

It’s why I spend so much time listening to people I perceive as unlikeable
I don't consider you as unlikeable, more unbearable. lol

But, I can't resist a free-for-all.

It is possible, but the point was to dispel your notion that getting to 70 was proof of smarts.
I was nominated for the US Air Force Academy at 17. I was in the top 1% of 744,000 military personnel at 17.
I haven't gotten stupider.

Why don't you offer something of substance instead of one liners?

First of all RBig, forget what myself or others say, you are entitled to your own beliefs. Okay?

We're having a lively discussion that will lead exactly to nowhere.

The price of BTC is manipulated the same as gold, the market, the price of milk, gas, butter, and everything else in this country.

You go down the street and see 20 gas stations and they're all the same price. Why? Some bought a tankard last week at X dollars, another station bought one a month ago at that same price less 5 cents a gallon, etc, yet they're all still the same price.

If you have a niche that you're good at, or that's good to you, then do what you think makes the most sense.

I've never, with one exception to Tampa Bay today, suggested to anyone to buy Bitcoin. People either buy into it, or they don't.

Why should I care what anyone does with their money? I do my thing, and so far, not too bad of a job. I'm almost 70 years old and I have a history or having made a lot of good decisions. I've also made some bonehead plays, but never a serious one.

Financial matters should be considered based on your own research, experience and gut feeling.
What kong or I believe, should have no bearing on what you think.
I disagree with the bolded - I find it interesting and enjoy learning different perspectives. At the very least it’s good for that 😁

I think that guys that feel the need to flex on a rando message board are extremely lame, and obviously insecure, but I don’t know if that is an original thought
You're getting there, that's a line and a half. It's not an orginal thought either.

Your preferred method is to jump in with some preconceived superior intellect, yet won't get in the fray for fear of being exposed. You're like the Mouth of the South in that way.

We were on this thread today for 3 hours, probably 100 posts.

You could have jumped in anytime and dazzled us with your financial brilliance, you could have educated us.

kong takes on all comers and sticks to his guns, I take on all comers and I stick to my guns.
He and I get after each other, piss each other off, but ten minutes later you find us in another thread agreeing.

Join the fray.

I'm getting close to selling and then also shorting it. Decision time between now and next Sunday's close.

It could dip down to 17 again, or possibly retest the bottom at 15.

For most people, they should not own or self custody it. There are firms evolving who will do the custody part for a fee. (See Swan Bitcoin for custody services)

There is a lot going on with the altcoin space with layer 2's as well as bitcoin ordinals.

Also some new futures exchanges out there that have tokenized stocks so you can trade them anytime and remain outside 'the legacy system'. I am 100% convinced the new financial markets are moving in this direction and fast. You can trade Apple, Google, Taiwan Semiconductor, etc.

The US Government is effectively losing control over the USD via stable coin equivalents and soon they could lose control of the financial markets altogether.

In my opinion, one needs the flexibility of crypto to be able to shift out of the dollar quickly when needed.

If you buy bitcoin at the right time and sell it at the right time you can obviously make a pretty penny. The kind of nightmare scenario that some of you seem to envision being a reason to own bitcoin really only has 3 outcomes that I can see 1. someone bigger and stronger takes your bitcoin and most likely kills you in the process, 2. no one wants it or you can't access it for some reason or another 3. the government shuts it down or seizes it with an ability that you are unaware of exists, like they did with the silk road. It doesn't appear that it will save or protect anyone in any event. Hope everyone makes money and does well, but that particular justification is mind numbingly stupid to me.

on some exchanges you can.. the SEC doesn't like it, and on many exchanges, they won't let you if they see you have a US ip address.. so a vpn is a good option, but there are still lots of exchanges where you can trade on margin, spot, futures, and perpetual. BTCC has about a dozen tokenized tech stocks, that you can also short.

Anyone use Coinbase? I got an email saying they need a photo ID by November due to federal mandates.

Anyone else hear anything about this?

I have a Russian banking stock, of course it is frozen because of the way and sanctions.

The good news is if I COULD sell it, it would be worth about 5 times what I bought it for...the bad news is...I may never be able to sell it.

isn't this a BRICS country?

Yes, 6 new members were invited to join

Argentina, Egypt, Ethiopia, Saudi Arabia, Iran and the United Arab Emirates

Those were just invitations.. Saudi Arabia, has sort of said, we'll think about it.. etc.. cause it's a political issue for them to turn their back on the US Petro Dollar program.

If this news about Argentina switching to the USD is what they do in the interim, then I think it's smart.

All fiat currencies are being debased, and the 'cleanest shirt in the hamper' is still the USD. Meaning currently, all other fiat is losing value against the USD at a faster pace. It gives Argentina some time to see how this is all going to play out.

In the crypto world, you have an explosion of USD stable coins that has been going on for a few years now.

Pretty soon, that is going to become mainstream for payment in my opinion. Timeframe is less than 2 years. Paypal has launched their USD equivalent and others surely will be launching their own stable coins. Visa is launching a network to allow payment via USDC (Coinbase's USD stable coin) so all the payment processors are currently scrambling to get this setup as we speak.

This will actually further entrench the USD as the global reserve asset.

There are still issues to overcome, like how are stable coins going to be regulated, and how will they show proof of reserves, because otherwise anyone can just print stable coins at will. That last bit, is of some interest to the US government naturally.

Sorry long answer to your question, but I wanted to cover some of the highlights going on in the industry which is really interesting.

Another day...another crypto exchage guru pleading guilty to fraud. This guy said he was above board and nothing like FTX and assured everyone they had nothing to worry about with his exchange...long live Binance.
This sounds a lot like you don't know what you're talking about

It's possible I'm misunderstanding the guilty plea from him for laundering money and violating other banking laws and the tens of millions he has agreed to pay in fines in addition to stepping down from his role. Anything's possible.

Look, crypto is stupid and clearly not "the way of the new world" but I am happy to make money off of it while it is here.

Believe what you want, but crypto will eventually be the future if finance. Probably after my lifetime, but the technology is something Banks can never offer
