OT - Atlanta & Columbia SC

hoping for some more wisdom from the RSS...

I'll be spending a few leisurely days solo in the Atlanta area next week and am looking for suggestions on good places to visit/areas to shop/things to do/places to eat... etc

Also am looking for info on the town of Columbia SC - anyone that is familiar, could you recommend it as a good/bad place to live? Younger professional - not married.
