To be clear, that would be the George Steinbrenner Yankees who like the current Dodgers’ owners had no spending limits. Since papa George died 15 years ago his son Hal Steinbrenner has been writing the checks. Anyone owning the Yankees or Dodgers will have a huge financial edge based on the local tv and attendance market size but Hal has been routinely outbid for the top players including his attempt to re-sign Soto a couple months ago and the top Japanese stars for several years.Dodgers have turned into the Yankees, just keep shelling out money to buy championships.
The issue is deferred money! I that must stop. They are beating the salary tax, which is partial cap, but broken now.
BingoYep, they found a loophole in the system and they are taking full advantage of it. It is going to make even that much harder for smaller market teams to compete.
It will be up to the other owners to put a stop to it.
Been saying that forever. But it’ll never happen. Just have to learn to accept it and deal with it.They have 2 world series trophies since the 70s. The shortened seasons don't count. It's stupid though. MLB needs a salary cap and floor
Hal is doing a solid job keeping the Yankees from adding more of the top hardwarethe evil empire must be stopped
Baseball is getting better around the world. Is it letting better within the states, or just more expensive and social media driven?
Baseball players are undoubtedly getting more and more skilledBaseball is getting better around the world. Is it letting better within the states, or just more expensive and social media driven?
Measureables are great to have. Don’t see the knowledge and understanding as pushed in too many places, anymore. Time will tell if it is changingBaseball players are undoubtedly getting more and more skilled
What that means for baseball itself is TBD
No the change to be made is a hard capjealous?
Ha.. could be another championship now back to back with Sasaki signing.
Face it, it’s Yankees, Dodgers, Phillies, Mets, Rangers, Braves for the foreseeable future
Problem with baseball is several teams have huge payrolls and their guys either get hurt or don’t produce. And some stars that are past their prime can’t just be cut because contracts are fully guaranteed
Want more parity in baseball in just one single rule change? Get rid of guaranteed contracts
Baseball contracts are the biggest jokes in sports. That’s why we love football
But they have won something like 10 of the last 11 divisional championships and when you are winning and going to the playoffs every year, you put butts in the seats, sell jerseys, and it helps with all of the other revenue generating aspects of professional sports. It helps being a Dodger fan when you are also a Vikings fan 🤢🤮They have 2 world series trophies since the 70s. The shortened seasons don't count. It's stupid though. MLB needs a salary cap and floor
A hard cap implies non guaranteed contracts, just like the NFL. Like my idea implies. No the change to be made is a hard cap
Like other sports
Pretty fascinating that the rest of the league isn’t outraged, but I guess nobody cares. Just silence. Also, Dodgers just signed closer Tanner Scott.
The more they spend the more the others’ revenue share increasePretty fascinating that the rest of the league isn’t outraged, but I guess nobody cares. Just silence.
For sure, but winning is a better revenue driver. Unless you are a consistent bottom dweller that knows competing is never going to be a thing. Far too many of those in MLB.The more they spend the more the others’ revenue share increase
Agree 100% 2 American League Central teams will NEVER face off in the World SeriesA hard cap implies non guaranteed contracts, just like the NFL. Like my idea implies.
But the players and teams won’t go for a hard cap in this model as there is no revenue sharing. A cap then penalizes the top 8 teams. Does anyone want a World Series with the Twins vs Royals?
No, no one wants that. Maybe the handful of Royals and Twins fans but not anyone else.
Won’t change while we are alive IMO
