OT: adenoids and ear tubes

My 17 month old son is getting adenoids out and ear tubes put in this morning. I realize its a simple procedure but the general anesthesia scares me. Anyone else's kids have good results with this? He has had a runny nose and a cough pretty much since the day he was born.
