OT: 9/11

I've told people for years, if they had seen the HBO movie in 1995, "Path to Paradise," they wouldn't have been shocked on the morning of 9/11. The link to the entire movie is below. Fast forward to 1:31:04 and hear what the mastermind (Ramsey Yousef) of the WTC Bombing in 1993 said after he was captured and saw the towers. He warned us, as did OBL when interviewed twice by western journalists. Most didn't listen.

The infighting and political maneuvering in the CIA and FBI is just bewildering. There was most definitely a desire during the Clinton presidency to keep things under wraps and make believe that everything was just fine. Clearly there was evidence that UBL was planning a plane attack on the US and yet we did little to prevent it. Unfortunately the FBI continues to still be way to politically involved to this day. It's all about protecting your turf and funding.

This is the most informative documentary on Nine Eleven that has ever been made. It's five hours, but well worth it if you are able.

9/11 defies political boundary.

"The drama of failed warnings began when Tenet and Black pitched a plan, in the spring of 2001, called “the Blue Sky paper” to Bush’s new national security team. It called for a covert CIA and military campaign to end the Al Qaeda threat—“getting into the Afghan sanctuary, launching a paramilitary operation, creating a bridge with Uzbekistan.” “And the word back,” says Tenet, “‘was ‘we’re not quite ready to consider this. We don’t want the clock to start ticking.’” (Translation: they did not want a paper trail to show that they’d been warned.) Black, a charismatic ex-operative who had helped the French arrest the terrorist known as Carlos the Jackal, says the Bush team just didn’t get the new threat: “I think they were mentally stuck back eight years [before]. They were used to terrorists being Euro-lefties—they drink champagne by night, blow things up during the day, how bad can this be? And it was a very difficult sell to communicate the urgency to this.”"

This is one of the better articles I've seen written on the GWOT showing the perspectives of the 12 DCI's and how the don't always line up on the same sides of the political talking points.

Agreed, I'm halfway into Road to 9/11 and it is excellent. History Channel interviewed some heavy hitters. Highly recommended.
