Hawkeye's bus story is chilling to this day
Just watch the video!I was a huge Mash fan but am not familiar with that story...imma gonna do some Googling on that one.
If Truman hadn’t stopped MacArthur there wouldn’t be a North Korea today.I was a huge Mash fan but am not familiar with that story...imma gonna do some Googling on that one.
Well……you are not giving the Chinese much credit😂If Truman hadn’t stopped MacArthur there wouldn’t be a North Korea today.
Maybe we don’t have China threatening us now if we had kicked their ass then too. Maybe there wouldn’t have been a Vietnam war IF we hadn’t decided to stop at the DMZWell……you are not giving the Chinese much credit😂
Hmmm…me too. What floor? I was on 11.Watched that episode in an Abel Hall dorm floor lounge along with about 30 others. We’d schedule going to residence hall meals around that show.
Ditto. Pink Panther Pride!!Hmmm…me too. What floor? I was on 11.
I forgot about the Pink Panther thing. But definitely an odd coincidence...and even more weird if you are that one guy that had lived on the floor for like 6 years .Ditto. Pink Panther Pride!!
Nope not that guy. Did live on the floor for 3 years though.I forgot about the Pink Panther thing. But definitely an odd coincidence...and even more weird if you are that one guy that had lived on the floor for like 6 years .
A large part of the different view is the way our news media portrayed the two conflicts. Walter Cronkite and his fellow communist sympathizers in the media caused that. I’m not saying we necessarily should have been in Vietnam BUT China’s long term goal of world domination hasn’t waned. We weren’t wrong about what their goal was in Vietnam. China things in terms of decades and centuries while we waffle every 4 years.Korean War thoughts...
A. My father and his brother were in the Marines at that time. My father's unit was in San Francisco ready to go but they were never deployed. My uncle did get sent there for a while though.
B. Growing up, we were taught a lot about the Revolutionary War, the Civil War, World War 1, World War 2 and the Vietnam War. Heck, the Vietnam War was still going on when I was really young. But the Korean War was the 'Forgotten War'. Like it seemed like the history books covered it in a paragraph or two and that was it. Seemed kinda strange.
C. My father-in-law's family fled their village and took refuge further south in another village. That's were he met his wife and started their family. I visited their graves the last time I was there. Beautiful area.
D. Why did the American public have such different reactions to the Korean War and the Vietnam War anyway?
E, North Korea sucks.
Oh my goodness.....A large part of the different view is the way our news media portrayed the two conflicts. Walter Cronkite and his fellow communist sympathizers in the media caused that. A lot of Vietnam vets feel the same way about CronkiteOh my goodness.....
Walter Cronkite.....'communist sympathizer'
Wow....I'm stunned at that statement as much as anything I've ever read on here.....Dan Rather, perhaps....
Actually go back to the end of WW2 Truman allowed Russia to declare war on Japan and I believe Russia moved in around Korea to possibly invade Japan, that’s the beginningIf Truman hadn’t stopped MacArthur there wouldn’t be a North Korea today.
Cronkite came to believe (somewhat late in the war) that it was an unwinnable war, and that the American people were being lied to....he was right on both accounts. This did not make him a communist OR AGAINST THE SOLDIERS.....A lot of Vietnam vets feel the same way about Cronkite
Here it isSomebody posted about the theme song SUICIDE IS PAINLESS, but did not post a link to the background...was that coming?
The early years were the best episodesThe show was pretty good until the latter years when it devolved into full episodes of Alan Alda talking nonstop each and every episode.
Loved McLean Stevenson and Trapper John in the early years.
Great show, classic movie..
The early years were the best episodes
for a young boy watching a topless sally kellerman the movie was top notch and the football game was pretty goodI thought the movie kinda sucked.
Agree 100%, but it was still good.
Totally agreeThe early years were the best episodes
Cronkite was what ended up making the war unwinnable. He destroyed the political will to see it through. What people conveniently forget is that Vietnam was JFK’s and LBJ’s war. Not saying it was the right thing to do. At least we maybe did deter China from continuing their drive throughout SE Asia though it’s clear they’re expanding their sphere of influence now. China clearly didn’t want a democracy at their door step.Cronkite came to believe (somewhat late in the war) that it was an unwinnable war, and that the American people were being lied to....he was right on both accounts. This did not make him a communist OR AGAINST THE SOLDIERS.....
