Oregon after Coach T

Tell me again why I want this shit staff to stay long term?

I know T hasn’t been here the whole time but is it the 4-8, 5-7, 3-5, or 3-9 that I should jerk off to?

I understand that Frost somehow got another year and we can’t change that but I don’t have to be all rah rah about it. And, I don’t believe they’ll win more than 5-6 next year, with my early prediction being 4-5 wins because NW is unusually shitty.

This is a message board, don’t get your panties in a wad when someone points out we suck.

Good match for Coach Tuioti. This matches his recruiting strengths (to a "T"). West coast. He recruits to the Polynesian community, and it seems like Oregon and UCLA are two of the top destinations for those kids. It's kind of like when Corey Raymond left for LSU, it was just the right fit (yeah, I know he left after Brian Kelly took over which was probably a mistake on Kelly's part). Donte Williams ultimately ending up at USC is another example.

Sorry to see him go, but I think he can be replaced on our staff. I'm not sure who they'll get but I don't expect a big dropoff. It's not a great sign that our coaches are looking elsewhere, but at least in this case it kind of makes sense.

Our DL turned mediocre pretty fast when we lost Daniels. I don't think Tuioti's a huge loss.

I thought he had the dline playing decent. but if he did'nt recruit well I suppose that's an issue.
oh well....next coach up

byu is pretty big with the polynesian too, I think

What? The guy has been here three years.
Lots of truth in everybody's feelings on this deal. Yes Tuoti struggled recruiting to NU but who wouldn't right now. COVID screwed us big time with not being able to get visitors to Lincoln and then there was the losing. Yes we played better on the D line this past year but the super seniors and some of the guys Tuoti inherited played a role in that. Clearly Oregon sees something they like in him and no doubt recruiting just got a LOT easier for him assuming he goes to Oregon. I think he's a pretty good coach but making hard and fast judgements on his recruiting is probably not wise given the circumstances he was hired in to. The next two hires will be interesting.

Honest questions, is Coach Dawson a good coach? If he’s constantly moving around and moving spots, sounds like a jack of all trades master of none to me. Have never been blown away by any of his guys. Obviously special teams was a dumpster fire last year and as Tannor did improve last year, but his OLB guys weren’t fantastic. He only coaches the BIG OLBs and not the hybrid OLBs, so just not sure why he’s so valued. Don’t see anything special. Why not just bring in a new D-Line coach?

Coaches don't always coach the same position for their entire career. He has spent most of his career coaching DL or linebackers.

I get that but he moves around more than most. The top coaches generally stay put. Mickey isn’t moving. Beckton isn’t moving. Fischer isn’t moving. Etc

And it still doesn’t answer my question. it’s annoying when people find one thing to nitpick on that isn’t the question.

There you go being the voice of reason again ! You know how people hate that here :)

What does the Nebraska O have anything to do with this discussion? Tony was here for 3 seasons. He didn't shutdown the rushing attack of Iowa, Wisconsin or Minnesota once and you can throw IL in there too.

This season, with a bunch of old guys that he didn't recruit, they were still 7th in the Big Ten against the run. Near the bottom in sacks. Near the bottom in total defense.

People want to overract and act like Tony was this world beater of a DL coach that could take average DL talent to the level of Ohio State. Not the case at all.

His recruiting was so bad he didn't win a single recruiting battle for a single primary DL target the entire time he was at Nebraska.

Nash = not Tony's guy.

Dawson is the reason why Robinson is at Nebraska, not Tony.
Jailen Weaver and Ru’Quan Buckley say hi.

What does the offense have to do with the defense? See, I'm not sure if you really don't know, or if you're trolling or you can't admit you are wrong. How many times did the offense turn the ball over at a horrible spot and the D had to go in and do damage control.

I think you know this. I also think you boxed yourself into a corner and are now just throwing crap against a wall to see what sticks.

Silly Oregon going after a merely "decent" Dline coach.

neither of those two were primary DL recruits.

I know people love to overreact and make things like the state is burning down, but the fact is, he never once won a recruiting battle for a single primary DL recruit his entire time at Nebraska. Never once. Ty is a Dawson recruit. Nash was already in place by other coaches. Roger is a Dawson recruit. Not a signle player that Tony recruited is going to be in the two deep next season and he was here for 3 seasons. Taht is TERRIBLE recruiting ability.

The bolded.........jeez.

I guess all of his "loyalty" quotes and being at Nebraska was "good for his family" was just a bunch of bullshit. I think it was a Sipple article. Whatever, money rules - always will - good for him.

Well I guess I know why his son didn’t commit and still has not committed to Nebraska

People love to overreact… you mean like this?

“Tuioti was obviously pushed out due to his bad recruiting record while here.”

I think he's a good coach. Even coached in the NFL for a time. Seems well respected. Was doing a good job recruiting in his first go-round at NU (pre-COVID). I think he's fine coaching anywhere in the defensive front 7. He's one on the staff who'll certainly be helping out in special teams, although someone posted he really doesn't want to be special teams coordinator. Doesn't mean he won't be helpful.

There's always reasons for success and failure. Given his short tenure, our losing and then what COVID did to recruiting it's just damned hard to judge what he might have done at NU under different circumstances.

The ones being but hurt over the departure of a decent coach but an awful recruiter are the ones overreacting. Tony T is easily replaceable for the mere fact that he didn't land a single primary DL target in three seasons.

You can all thank Coach Dawson for the starting 3 on the DL in 2022.

A shitty recruiter leaving. I'll never shed a tear over that alone no matter how good they are as a coach. You can't out coach recruiting, period. Name me one big recruiting win he had his entire time here. There isn't one. The linebacker he got from hawaii wasn't even recruited that hard by other schools.

Now is the time to get better on the defensive side for recruiting ability and let's start to land some above average DL recruits.
Took until comment 4 for it to turn out that we didn’t want them huh ahahaha

What does Lanning offering a job to Tony have anything to do with countering the reality of Tony's failed recruiting efforts and being a decent DL coach? He isn't someone that you say "hold the **** on, here is $1M for you to stay."

You massively improve the entire coaching and recruiting ability of the staff by moving Dawson to DL, Busch to Special teams and OLB, and go and open up the bank vault for Faulk to be the RB coach. Hell, getting Faulk might give nebraska a chance for a 5-star RB.
Insane mental gymnastics to think we are better off because 10-2 Nike money Oregon took one of our coaches, Nebraska isn’t worth squat from a football or place to live standpoint I imagine it’s a hard sell

Recruiting dont mean shit if you cant coach. Been proven way too mamy times. Frost has had some good recruiting classes and hell HCMR had some good recruiting classes. Look how far top 25 or 35 recruiting classes got us. Sweet a bunch of losing seasons.

Cant win anything of significance without both recruiting and development. Both matter.
