Oregon 2025 QB signee entering portal…

The guy was committed to Cal over the summer, flipped to Oregon, and now feels like they aren’t making him a priority.

This is ridiculous.

So, we’ll see how this plays out, but the best programs are always going to look at a veteran QB that has produced. They’ll happily play him for two years. As an underclassmen, if you’re not starting by year two, you could be lost in the shuffle forever. I get where he’s coming from.

I've heard talk that the new model for QBs could become signing with a smaller school, get some starts under your belt, and then move up. The Big Boys are looking for experience first and foremost.

Side note: I heard on the radio that one day after Daniel Kaelin signed with Virginia, they got a 3 year starting QB from North Texas to transfer in as well. That Kaelin can't catch a break.

Ridiculous is right. This makes my head hurt.

"signed with the Ducks on Dec. 4, has confirmed to ESPN that he will enter the NCAA transfer portal.

"I just felt that I wasn't a main priority [at Oregon]""

I would almost guarantee Oregon will replace 6th year QB with another veteran QB.

If Ohio State takes out Texas, does Quinn Ewers take his talents to Oregon? He can vie for the NFL or bet on himself that he can beat out Manning. The safe move is to go to Oregon, make seven or $8 million, play with stud receivers and still have the same opportunity in the NFL.

But if he loses the job to Manning, that does not bode well for his future. Manning is in the perfect position. Go ahead Ewers, this is yours to lose.

That’s exactly how I envision it. Go out and find a program that throws the ball a bunch in a pro style offense and ball out for two years.

maybe im being petty, but I'm not sure i want someone who, less than a month after signing, is going elsewhere because he isn’t a priority. What are coaches supposed to do with this? If they look longingly at another QB, they may lose this kid? Give me guys like Kaelin every time. At least he was all in for the time he was here.

I sort of like this aspect of the transfer portal. It’s kind of like you’ve been producing in the minor leagues, and now you get moved up to the big leagues and you’re making some real money.

Everyone knows the NFL is still a longshot for top college players. You have to grab a check while you’re still a hot commodity.

We like to think there is still an unwritten rule about loyalty and commitment, but that hasn’t been true of coaches for a very long time now, and teams have no problem tampering with their rivals rosters. New rules, new ball game, learn to succeed with it. The portal is a cruel mistress. She gives and she takes. Do not turn your back on that B.

I believe if Texas loses and ewers doesn’t look phenomenal, there will be so much pressure on Sark to move forward with Manning because I don’t see Manning sitting another year.

About the only reason I don’t mind this maneuver is if he was sold a bill of goods and it was a bait and switch. But I’m not sure that that’s what happened with Oregon. If something like that were to happen, I totally understand why someone would bail After arriving.

I wouldn’t worry about him. Kind of reminds me of our guy who gave his word to Ohio State, and then Georgia, and then felt dissed by how they recruited other QBs.

You better figure out which of your players need the most validation. I’m not promising anyone the job, but I am definitely sugarcoating some things during the developmental stage to boost morale

Bottom line.

Manning is playing this perfectly. With his pedigree and the guys in his corner, he could’ve put tremendous pressure on Sark to play him a lot more. He did not. Instead, he’s listening to guys like Tom Brady and uncle Peyton, uncle Eli, etc, who will tell him that the developmental stage is incredibly valuable. Put in the work, study, learn and be ready when your number is called.

Ewers is out at Texas unless they win the national title, and even then, they may move forward with Manning. Ewers still has many flaws to his game. If I were Texas, I would have moved on to Manning a long time ago.

Agree he’s got good council but I don’t see him sitting another year, he could go to Oregon or Ohio State if Texas chooses to roll with ewers again.

I don’t blame them. Look at the teams that were good this year. Oregon had a six year quarterback. Ohio State had a transfer that was in his fifth year. Notre Dame took a transfer from Duke that had extensive experience. The good teams are realizing you can’t play a young quarterback and you just have Have to have an established leader. The rich get richer. College football is forever changed.

Oldjar thinks we should get him
Why doesn't Oregon have 2 experienced, Heisman caliber qbs on the roster? They have unlimited money. That's all it takes, right? Money?

Amazingly he hasn't listed all the qb rooms for these teams that have a former OSU starter and the #1 qb recruit coming in at the same time.

But is Ewers better? Fans will be calling for Arch next season.
I haven’t watched Arch play, I saw highlights and he has more upside with his legs. I think Ewers throws good 5-15 yard throws and is a good distributor. Going to be interesting to see what happens

Ewers announced he was entering the draft a month ago.
