A 33-year-old Groveland woman has been arrested after DNA tests showed a child she gave birth to with “several medical problems” had parents who were close relatives, according to an arrest report.

The woman, a McDonald’s cashier, told deputies she had a “romantic sexual relationship” with her brother for the past five years and moved to Florida three years ago to live with him as a couple.

“She said she was going to end her relationship with her brother because she knows it is wrong,” deputies wrote in the report.

The woman gave birth Nov. 21 to a baby who was transferred to Winnie Palmer Hospital for Women & Babies in Orlando within hours because of “severe medical problems,” the report said.

Neither the woman nor her brother filled out the Medicaid paperwork or obtained a birth certificate and “genetic testing showed the baby to have parents that are close relatives,” the report said.

The state Department of Children and Families met with woman and the father to request the paper work be completed, but she didn’t do it until Feb. 26, the report states.

While talking to deputies, the woman, who has a 12-year-old by another man, said she last slept with her brother March 21.

“At that time, there was probable cause for arrest,” the report said.

She was charged with incest and resisting without violence and released from the Lake County Jail on $3,000 bond.

Law enforcement is trying to speak to her brother, but have not yet been able to find him.
