Still think Eichorst is making a big mistake by agreeing to play a home game on Friday night at home regardless if it's every three years.

There is no penalty from the conference to do so, and Michigan and Penn St have already said no to the idea. So why does Eichorst agree or like the idea to do so?

If we have to play a road game so be it but don't ruin Saturday home games.

I might add the only Friday game we should Agree on is the day after Thanksgiving

I agree with both of you that Friday night games in Lincoln would be a huge mistake. However I would not be the least bit surprised if the Colorado game in 2108 isn't moved to Friday night. FOX has first tier rights to the Big Ten (under whose contract this game will fall) and full media rights to the Pac Twelve. What better way for FOX to get a plum early game on a Friday night for ratings, especially when it matches two former conference rivals from the Big 8/Big XII years.

I think he must see it as anything that gets us more exposure is good. The problem is we don't need the extra exposure. It's great for the lesser schools in the conference that need the extra exposure, but we don't need it, and I think the problems with hosting a game on a Friday outweigh any benefit we get from the extra exposure anyway.

As a side note just think what a Friday night game would do to commerce in Nebraska on a Friday. I live in Omaha and I would likely have to leave work at 2:00 to get ready to go and get to my parking space. UNL would pretty much have to cancel classes that day, and city owned parking lots in Lincoln would be a train wreck due to the normal day to day parking that's needed for downtown business then adding the football traffic to that would just be horrendous.

As was pointed out above some of the schools who do not get the attention and attendance that Nebraska has this is probably OK but not for Nebraska. BTW a friend of mine told me earlier this year, "just wait the day is coming when someone is going to want a Sunday game(s) on a network like NBCsN, TBS or the like and the money offered will be enough to give the schools pause on whether or not to say no".

Good point, but playing first game on Sept 1 against Akron and than have a short week of practice for Colorado would not be in the best interest for the football program...

Be better off playing Akron on Friday night on Aug 31on Labor Day weekend. and have extra time to prepare for Colorado.

Maybe the games that are going to be played on a Friday could be played before the Nebraska High School Football Season actually starts?

Living in KC, I am not familiar when the football games start in Nebraska. Is this an option or do all of the games overlap?

I wonder about how this would impact Lincoln as well. I can only guess what the bars on O street and the Railyard make during a home game but how would that change with the game on a Friday? There are probably more than a few businesses that rely on Saturday home games.

Its a big middle finger to anyone who goes to games and buys tickets but doesnt live wihin an hours drive. A second middle finger to high school coaches and players.
And a MAC league move.
Seriously eichorst can piss off.

they can play the 2108 Colorado game whenever...i dont care.

Don't go. If it is such a bad move several thousand empty seats should send that message pretty clearly. My guess is that the stadium will be full.

That's not the point... Boycotting serves no purpose if you're a season ticket holder living a couple of hours outside of Lincoln, business owners in Lincoln etc etc.

It would deter future Friday night games. If the revenue from a Friday night game is equivalent or more than a 11am Sat game they will continue and could even serve as evidence there should be more.

Are we sure all BIG schools were given the opportunity to opt out ?

From the article I read Michigan and Penn St. Flat out said no... and there is no penalty for the school not to play a home Friday game.Go to Cornation.com for the article.

I'll guarantee you business on a Friday night game would not be better than a 11:00 game on Saturday... Hate to say it but that is a no brainier.

After 11:00 games at 2:45-3:00 the Bars are filled from my experience and a Friday night game would not bring in people no earlier than 4:00 on a Friday compared to a Night game on Saturday when they would have people filled up all day before Kickoff.

Not really doubting that. Just not sure that Nebraska saying no to Jim Delany is the same as Michigan or Penn State saying no to Jim Delany.

despite what Mich and PSU decided we may have been told we are playing Friday night games.

When referring to revenue I was speaking more to the $ the university collects. Some of which is from the conference coffers which I suspect grows as a result of the TV contract associated with Friday night games.

Article did point out "There are no special financial bonuses for hosting a B1G game on Friday".

That can be interpreted a number of ways. No special bonuses can mean the individual school does not benefit more than the other conf schools that aren't hosting a game that particular year ... The conference revenue increases and therefore all conference schools benefit.

It's not just Michigan and Penn State-Northwestern resisted after initially having two Friday night conference games scheduled for this year, and the conference moved the games back to Saturday.

I think almost all of us can all agree that this is not in the best interest of the Husker fanbase. This obviously is about TV and market shakeup. In a way at its core, it's guerilla marketing. FOX College Football gets their name out their a little more. Despite an uprising of angry Nebraska fans, we're all going to talking about it = mission accomplished. But no matter the traffic and the messing up of everyone's schedules, it's Nebraska football. You don't think the TV markets know that? The stadium will be sold out like it always "is" and we're all going to be watching the damn game. GBR.

Thanks - didn't know that. Good for Northwestern for pushing back. Has to be hard enough getting fans to Evanston on a Saturday; wouldn't want to try to do it on a Friday night.

My first impression is that there will be a bunch of empty seats on a Friday night. We'll see.

Is there anyone on here associated with Nebraska High School Football?

I dont think there was anopportunity, i think they just flat said no and what arenyou gonna do. Which is what we should have done.
If thats not the case, the the big is no different than the big 12 and texas. Man i wanna like the big ten, but moves like this and others just piss me off and make me wish we didnt move.

Oh right, because being in the Big 12 would be so much better. I mean we'd just be lovin' life in the Big 12, wouldn't we? I mean being under the thumb of Texas all the time-yeah that was so fun. And not being sure of our conference future and could be left out in the cold if(when) Texas decides to be done with the Big 12-yeah, that's where we want to be. I don't like the Friday night games either, but don't be ridiculous.

My guess is that it wont be full like many pud games now.

But thats not the point. Whats touted as the best fanbase in college football by our university, sell out streak and all that, plus having to pay stupid "donations" for season tickets, you would think the university A.D would stand by our fans and say "no, we arent doing that to our fans. We have many who travel great distances every saturday and work on friday. We also support high school football." Etc. but no, just cave and big middle finger.
Pisses me off so much.

You are the king of sarcasm. Like, totally awesome and nifty and you must i mean be a hit with 16 year old girls.
I agree, Im glad we arent in the big 12. It did suck and texas sucked. But it looks like they are viable, which surprises me. I loved the move at the time but im disappointed thus far with a lot. Sorry Im honest.
But if some schools had a choice and we didnt, then it IS a lot like the big 12 isnt it?

WE chose not to turn down Friday night games. How is that a conference problem? Nobody has ever said some schools could turn them down and some couldn't. We made a choice to have them for some reason. I don't like the choice either, but it's really not worth making that big of a deal over it.

I said if in the first and second quote you posted as a response to an above poster. Sorry you missed that.
And yes it is a big deal. Its a slap in the face to fans. I have no idea how you dont see that, but whatev.

There is no if here. Every article that has been written about it has indicated that any school who wanted to turn down the Friday night games had the opportunity to do so. The schools who turned them down were open about it not wanting to have them. We have never said anything negative about it. We wouldn't just play nice and pretend that we have no problem with hosting Friday night games if we were told we had to have them. You don't have to try to convince me that we are making the wrong move. I'm with you on that. I wish we would still turn them down. But I just don't think it's worth throwing a fit about it.

The cynic in me thinks that as the junior member of the conference, who was brought in to add another nationally relevant football program and hasn't delivered and to top it off is the sole reason why the BIG can no longer claim that all their members belong to the AAU we were told we would be hosting a Friday night game once in a while and to deal with it.

You dont understand why i used if.
No big deal, we agree.... and i think its abig deal worth raising a stink about. You think its not. I expect better from the athletic dept at nebraska. Plus riley is gonna have to be creative with recruits that wknd.

And so we're just playing nice and lying through our teeth? Nonsense. Just crap being stirred up from those who constantly want to find something wrong with our move to the B1G(and the same people who would be complaining just as loud if not louder with how the Big 12 was treating us if we were still there).

I am more than happy with the move to the BIG. I just think the conference believes we are benefitting much more from the move than the conference. We might be full members as far as payout but not as far as prestige, history or influence.

Don't put words in my mouth. I agreed with the move, and admitted above im glad we arent in the big 12.
This is a shit move by all involved, even if we had a choice the big should never have done it, and being happy about "more revenue and stability" doesnt change that.
