The only person who can fire the coach is the A.D and he hired the guy less than a year ago, he won't do it.It would be a terrible move for the university to allow the total destruction of the program...which is the present course of the program. What is progress? Winning 3 this year and 4 next year...5 the year after? Time to cut our losses. If we trashed by the media who cares? We would at least be proactive and trying to turn things around.
BTW,,,the pitchfork comment is total nonsense. The fan base isn't "coaching" this debacle.
Right on. I'd have him thrown in prison, frankly. Fire the injury-prevention coach, also. I still say impeaching Ricketts is on the table. This happened under his watch. There simply is no excuse for this. Bad luck, injuries, not having Riley's players, new coaches, etc.
how is Nebraska this bad this quick? Mike Riley. I hope he steps down at season's end.
I can respect his thoughts, but he can't justify this non-sense we saw today.
I can respect his thoughts on this subject, but he can't justify this non-sense we saw today.
Say what? NHL experience means nothing...different league, different talent levels, different cultures...heck, it is practically a different sport! The only person who can fire the coach is the A.D and he hired the guy less than a year ago, he won't do it.
Allow the coaching staff to settle in and do their jobs, you do realize some of these coaches have NFL experience?
The ad would need to be canned first. How much would it cost to buy out the coaches contracts and hire new coaches? Seriously.
not a fan either. seems like he always stands there staring with his mouth open.We all hated Bo's sideline demeanor, but I hate Riley's as well. Every time they show him, he seems to be just standing there by himself. Never see him engaging with players and coaching them up.
Take a look at the 98 offense and get back to me.
Yes the NHL is a different sport.Say what? NHL experience means nothing...different league, different talent levels, different cultures...heck, it is practically a different sport!
LOL...this team has me thinking hockey already. The NFL has few similarities with the college game.Yes the NHL is a different sport.
Again, not to defend what I consider a mediocre staff, we would have won today if we had Division I qb on our team. They have 28 points off 5 turnovers.
Where are all the players Pelini was going to put the stars on?
Mediocre staff inherits mediocre recruiting efforts and the results suck.
Yeah, OK. They lacked experience, not talent. Finished season with future Heisman QB Crouch after starting season with Newcombe, one of the elite athletes ever at NU. Makovika one of NU's best FB's ever. DeAngelo Evans a great but injury prone I-Back. Sheldon Jackson a great receiving TE. WR's were Davison, Kenny Cheatham, Shevin Wiggins, no problem there. Two future All-Americans on OL in Dominic Raiola and Russ Hochstein. They were not All-Americans yet, but the talent was there. "Bare cupboard" is ridiculous comment.Take a look at the 98 offense and get back to me.
He won't be fired that would be a bad move for the University, they will give him 3 years at least to show progress. The injuries are not his fault, the fact the current group of athletes don't fit his system is not his fault. The University is bigger than the football program and firing a first year coach paints the University in such a bad light nationally those in charge will not allow that to happen.
What he needs is support verses the pitchfork and torch crowd.
6,000+ posts, hope they were better than this drivelRight on. I'd have him thrown in prison, frankly. Fire the injury-prevention coach, also. I still say impeaching Ricketts is on the table. This happened under his watch.
Probably not. I'm not getting better, I can tell you that. I blame that on Riley, for the most part--and having a busy family with kids in activities. I can't really commit to making great posts, so I resort to sarcasm too often.6,000+ posts, hope they were better than this drivel
Well duh, but the 98 team was not ready to compete. That's my point.I would respectfully state that you are mistaken.
The reason things collapsed so suddenly on Solich in 2002 was that he had finally run out of Osborne recruits.
The 98 offense was a total product of Frank's ....I don't know what to call, guess I'll callTake a look at the 98 offense and get back to me.
Why do coaches deserve time? They can leave at pretty much aNY time. They can perform poorly and get fired and keep getting paid years later making millions. This coaching staff has shown who they are. They don't deserve anymore time here, and didn't deserve to be here in the first place. This fan base deserves a lot better. The 98 offense was a total product of Frank's ....I don't know what to call, guess I'll call
OPTION, TO THE SHORT SIDE OF THE FIELD. Guys like Bobby Newcombe and Eric Crouch were "okay'
That has become a very tired excuse. Staff sucks and players know it.Again, not to defend what I consider a mediocre staff, we would have won today if we had Division I qb on our team. They have 28 points off 5 turnovers.

I usually don't put much stock into things like that, but there were multiple times they showed him on the sidelines like that, and I've never seen someone look so clueless.not a fan either. seems like he always stands there staring with his mouth open.
Nick Saban is 64.He's almost in his mid sixties. Maybe it's time for him to just admit he's out of his element and time to retire.
probably the most accurate six wordsStaff sucks and players know it.

Nick Saban is 64.
If you read Shatel's column it is very clear nobody is going anywhere, I agree with Tom when he said letting this staff go after 1 year would be toxic suicide for the program nobody would touch the job with a 30 foot pole. How much would it cost to buy out the coaches contracts and hire new coaches? Seriously.

If you let this staff continue it's also toxic suicide.
We're 3-6...and we haven't even played a ranked team.
Riley should be given enough time to recognize the deficiency in his assistant's teaching, schemes and playcalling and make changes. If he chooses to not exercise his oversight obligation, then he in isolation should be judged for the team record.
