However, it's hard to envision any sort of bright future with the current staff.

That has to be one of the--if not the--worst team in Husker football history.

Good lord, at least Callahan was completely changing to a West Coast offense from the option in his first year.

Not to excuse the current staff, but our weakness at the quarterback spot (among other areas) pisses me off. Pelini and his staff sucked bad at recruiting and qb development.

In theory..that sounds nice. Unfortunately we know what we are going to get. And it's not good. What an absolute shit show this program is. Going to get really really ugly for Riley.

You don't go in to full on regression mode because you have a good coaching staff. Still a quarter to go and Nebraska is getting stomped by a one win team..

Ask yourself....if asked his vision before the hire....a coach said, we will win 3 to 4 games, finish 6th or 7th in the west.....but will be building for year four and five....

If that was the vision....would you hire that guy.

Obviously, that wasn't Riley's vision...but it has become reality and must be dealt with by the university.

The staff would deserve more time if they'd deserved the job in the first place. There is no reason to continue this farce.

He won't be fired that would be a bad move for the University, they will give him 3 years at least to show progress. The injuries are not his fault, the fact the current group of athletes don't fit his system is not his fault. The University is bigger than the football program and firing a first year coach paints the University in such a bad light nationally those in charge will not allow that to happen.

What he needs is support verses the pitchfork and torch crowd.

I hope he steps down.....wrong hire.

He won't step down. Doing so would hose his buddies he has hired as assistants. He's going to get as much money out of Nebraska for himself and his friends as possible. Hypo-allergenic houses for his high-maintenance wife aren't cheap.

How much would it cost to buy out the coaches contracts and hire new coaches? Seriously.

I can`t envision this ever getting better with this staff.

Realistically, can we afford to go shopping for a coach right now? We are still paying Pelini (his renewal the year before firing him was stupid).

Even the announcers can see this was a bad hire, why can't we?

Well, HuskerTimOmaha spent the off season saying it was an awesome hire, so there's that.
I can respect his thoughts, but he can't justify this non-sense we saw today.

It would be a terrible move for the university to allow the total destruction of the program...which is the present course of the program. What is progress? Winning 3 this year and 4 next year...5 the year after? Time to cut our losses. If we trashed by the media who cares? We would at least be proactive and trying to turn things around.

BTW,,,the pitchfork comment is total nonsense. The fan base isn't "coaching" this debacle.

He's also on record of having been happier at 1-2 with Riley than 3-0 with Bo. He must be dancing in the street now.
I not saying that I rather have Quinn (bo) Pelini inside joke running this program, but Reilly's team are unbearable to watch and now we are curb stomped by Purdue. A turd is a turd no matter how you shit it out.

Again, not to defend what I consider a mediocre staff, we would have won today if we had Division I qb on our team. They have 28 points off 5 turnovers.

Where are all the players Pelini was going to put the stars on?

Mediocre staff inherits mediocre recruiting efforts and the results suck.

Agreed - let's put this experiment to rest after one year and not make this a Callahan 5 year debacle. Not sure it's going to get better with what we are seeing on the field

I not sure, if having a better quarterback would have been made any difference. True about your last statement, but if we had a good coaching staff with mediocre recruits would have still beat Purdue and Illinois this year. 55 hung on us by Purdue!!!!

I agree with most of what you say, but we should be able to beat Purdue with a back up QB.

I also don't pin this loss completely on Fyfe. The OL was atrocious as usual and the coaches abandoned the running game once again. Especially with a back up QB, we shouldn't be putting the game on his shoulders to have to make plays to win. We have playmakers we could have put the ball in their hands to carry the offense today.

<<Mediocre staff inherits mediocre recruiting efforts and the results suck>> Yeah, I agree with you but the talent level on this team is better than what the utilization we're seeing so far.

Agreed, this is hot mess right now. Just hit the reset button on the program and start with someone new. Most of you are intelligent enough to know who the good coaching choices that still out there, but this going to tough off-season to lure one of them to Nebraska. A lot of good openings for next season.
