Would hope we at least tried to get Kiffin... I realize he may not be the ideal "fit" for this staff, but this needs to be a home run type of hire, particularly from a recruiting standpoint, and Kiffin definitely fits that bill. I know a lot of people like McClure from UCLA too, but I have been underwhelmed with their DL the last couple seasons

Are we assuming he's the lone "clean" recruiter on their staff? Or are we ok with the results more than the perception? Some interesting double standards around here as of late.
There's only one reason anybody is bringing up Kiffin and that's because his name is Kiffin. That's a bad hiring criteria and I highly doubt he gets any consideration from NU.
No, the only reason anyone thinks we have a shot at him is because his name is Kiffin The guy has coached some great D lines and was the 2014 recruiter of the year.
Good points, BUT there's a reason Monte was passed over at NU. There's a reason Lane has had so many issues. There's a reason this guy has had issues. IF Riley does the due diligence and wants to throw a wad of cash at him, fine. But I'm not pining for him. I have a hunch that we'll hire somebody that most will say, WTF, much like they did with Williams. Then eventually they'll wonder why they ever questioned the hire.

That's a possibility with Kiffin. Sometimes families have the same issues throughout the family but sometimes the personalities and way of doing business are far different...even for coaches. I look at the Stoops brothers. Bob is the most level headed of the group while Mike is a nutjob. They have vastly different styles and way of doing business. I respect Bob a lot...Mike not so much. I think Mark seems like he is somewhere in the middle...albeit a bit slimy.
So who knows on the Kiffins.
If we can find another lightning rod like Williams I'm all for it and I trust HCMR to do it. But I believe Kiffin would be a homerun, based off his resume, not his name.
I would expect NU and OU to be battling it out to fill this position. We'll see how this transpires and who wins.
Or the 2 coaching staffs are looking for 2 completely different kind of person.
Shouldn't the person who's job is on the line get to decide what's best as opposed to random fans?
Was he a top notch coach because he had top notch talent and they had cheated to get that talent? I don't know enough about the situation to say one way or another but something smells rotten down there. He might be itching to leave town before sanctions hit. Whatever. As I posted earlier, IF Riley wants him I'm fine with that because I trust him to thoroughly investigate his hires and make an informed decision.
