Freshman Devin Nunez has been named the Big Ten’s Freshman of the Week, the league office announced Monday afternoon.

The Navasota, Texas, native led the Husker offense at the Frisco Classic last weekend, hitting 7-of-14 with a home run, three RBI and four runs scored in three games. Nunez tallied a .714 slugging percentage and a .533 on-base percentage.

In Nebraska’s 8-3 win against Sam Houston, Nunez was 2-for-4 at the plate with an RBI, a run scored and a walk. The designated hitter had 3-for-5 night with a pair of runs scored against No. 2 LSU on Saturday.

Nunez wrapped up last weekend’s action at the Frisco Classic with a 2-for-5 performance against Kansas State, including a two-run inside-the-park home run for his second homer of the season.
