NU up to #12 in coaches poll

Lets all pump the brakes and worry about indiana first. That wont be an easy win.

You are correct. IU will be tougher than most think. Lots of shit happening in the Big Ten this year. Outside of OSU and MI there's not really any team that probably can't beat another. Is MI St as good as advertised early on or are they way over rated? Is the Wisc win over Sparty deminished by the Sparty los at IU? Iowa is acclaimed early on as pretty good but now they seem to can't beat a lame duck. Now is the time to buckle down, not look ahead and try to take care of business one game at a time. Do that and the "big games" will indeed be big games. Wisc can be beat but not so sure OSU is beatable. But...it is all meaningless if we can't beat IU and MN.

The OSU game in November won't mean much. The one in December is the one that really counts.

Oh No! I've looked ahead!

Could you imagine if we make it to Wisconsin undefeated and then beat a worndown Badger team. Then pull off a last second win in the Horseshoe and win the rest of the regular season games. Do you realize what level of crazy there would be if it was an Undefeated Michigan vs an Undefeated Nebraska for the B1G title???

I have actually thought about just that. The first step in our team beating tOSU is believing they can. I don't think I ever go into a Nebraska game thinking we can't win.

To put the above thoughts in perspective, right after I thought about an undefeated NU-MI CCG, I thought about winning the lottery and retiring early :)

Careful guys... if Rowdy checks in here again he may go nuts putting you guys in your place.

No more what ifs... if you continue to do that, I guess we will probably lose to Indiana. So please stop looking ahead. I don't want to lose to Indiana because you guys are looking ahead.

I think we've been improving, but I just don't see us as a #12 team truth be told. I guess we will see how it all plays out.

I think most people would agree with you and it's kind of hard to imagine how Wisky, even with one loss, could be below us for just one example. When you really look at all the teams below us until you get to #25 (Western Michigan) it's hard for me to fathom us beating to many of those teams on a neutral field. Other side is, coaches used to pretty much ignore the strength of schedule and I wonder if some still do to some extent? Back in our prime, didn't matter if we pounded Pacific by 50, and some other top rated team lost by one point to another top rated team, the winner always moved up, and loser down. Seems like that's what's going on here, or the coaches aren't really spending a lot of time watching CFB, or a combination of both. Having said that, screw it. 5-0 is 5-0 and you have to put somebody there. Almost feel guilty letting myself enjoy it though, I'm weird like that, because it's hard for me to fathom this is really the #12 team in the country when I watched us play Illinois.

Yeah, don't look ahead fans. Keep studying that Indiana tape and ice bathing our arthritic joints so we can give our best effort complaining on the Internet in 2 weeks.

If we look ahead, a half assed game thread is sure to happen.

That's the kind of focus we need around here! I nominate NorthWillRiseAgain for HC of the Husker board.

Any guesses on the Nebraska @ Ohio State spread?

I heard Ohio State I'd favored by 8 against Michigan. That tells a lot.

It depends if Nebraska is healthy or not.

Nebraska, as of today is not a top 15 team. If you can get Farmer, Knevel, Westerkamp, Carter, Moore, and Brandon Reilly completely healthy, then the ranking is warranted.

But the Huskers don't have the depth yet to overcome losses to some very talented front line starters. A year from now Carter, Westerkamp, and Alonzo Moore will be all be playing in the NFL. Reilly will at least earn a camp invite.

The offensive line back ups are walk ons. You can't go face big time D-lines with 3 walk ons starting on your offensive line.

If Nebraska is still this beat up vs. Indiana, that game will be much closer than anyone imagined.

The Huskers are big time challenge to defend if Carter, moore, westy, and Reilly are all healthy. Carter really compliments the run game as well because of his blocking and how it gives Armstrong a tremendous run pass option. That part of the game is virtually eliminated with his absence.

With Moore and Reilly on opposite sides of the field, you now have to keep a safety back. With those two, plus Carter, plus Westerkamp, you now have to either cover one of the two with a linebacker or a Nickel. That's a night mare matchup for any opponent. It won't even be ideal for Ohio State, a team with great athletes.

Hopefully Nebraska can have their full arsenal back by the month's end.

Not many surprises there except I can't see Oklahoma at #22 with two losses (albeit tOSU and Houston) and a win over UL Monroe and a narrow win over unranked TCU. Also, I can't believe Notre Dame didn't at least receive votes after the big win over Syracuse :)
Baylor is a ? for me.
