Three Huskers Earn Academic All-District Honors
Three Nebraska defensive players were honored on Thursday as members of the CoSIDA Academic All-District 7 football team. Junior linebacker Chris Weber earned the honor for the second consecutive year, while sophomore defensive tackle Mick Stoltenberg and senior defensive tackle Logan Rath were each honored for the first time.
With their selections to the Academic All-District 7 team, each of the three players advances to the national ballot for the CoSIDA Academic All-America team.
Weber carries a 3.96 cumulative grade-point average in nutrition science and is a key member of the Huskers’ special teams and defense. Weber has eight tackles this season after registering 49 stops as a sophomore in 2015. He is a six-time Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll selection and a two-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree.
Stoltenberg has started four games this season at defensive tackle, helping Nebraska feature one of the nation’s most improved defenses. He has 16 tackles, including three tackles for loss, in 2016. In the classroom, Stoltenberg has a 3.45 cumulative grade-point average in management.
A senior from Giltner, Neb., Rath has been a key defensive reserve and special teams performer for the Huskers. He is a six-time member of the Nebraska Scholar Athlete Honor Roll and has a 3.65 grade-point average in agricultural economics.
Nebraska has a long-standing history of academic honors, leading the nation in Academic All-Americans across all sports with 325, including 111 football honorees. Nebraska has had 73 first-team Academic All-Americans in school history. The 2016 CoSIDA Academic All-America team for Division I football will be announced on Dec 1.
