I watched GG warm up at IU game. Sweet stroke. He had not earned any minutes so far in December. Could be a good role player going forward if he keeps playing like this, although I am not sure who he takes minutes from in the current rotation?

Think CJ…and Sam against the best Big 10 teams. Sam was a great story for the last 2 years, but if we want to make a jump (winning games in the NCAA tournament), Fred needs to out recruit his son. In year 6, SH and CJ should not be getting meaningful minutes…
CJ is the first person I thought of, but SH has a well defined role. He does that very well. Sam can also play some minutes as a ball handler (not PG but in other ways). Sam is a “chemistry” guy. That is needed just as much as Xs and Os. CJ role right now is to save fouls, which GG can easily do, but can also add an offensive threat.
Agree. I love the energy and D that Sam brings to the table. He'd actually be a hell of a player if he could ever make a shot. I think that is the one thing that holds him back is he just can't buy a bucket. If that ever clicked with him NU would get real dangerous.
Pretty sure the +/- metrics would support Sam continuing to play. His defense makes a real difference.
30 in the country by Rivals, No. 36 by ESPN, and No. 39 by ON3. Ranked as a five-star recruit in January of 2023.
I agree his potential for minutes this year looks bleak. I'm not a fan of Sam getting all the minutes that he does, but I don't think that will change. Hopefully when Griffiths transferred he understood this was going to be a developmental year and nothing was guaranteed.
