Noah Vedral = Joey Ganz

I think there already is one.

only for a few FANS. Outside that, there isn’t and won’t be one. Martinez is our guy for a reason and that’s not going to magically change. Only way we have a REAL QB controversy is if Luke McCaffrey plays and kills it. Absolutely owns it. Vedral has had a number of chances to beat out Adrian Martinez and hasn’t done it. McCaffrey on the other hand could do it and I’m whiling to bet has the best running abilities and is VERY fast. Unless McCaffrey plays and absolutely tears it up...there isn’t a QB controversy and won’t be regardless how Vedral does if he plays or doesn’t play.

Not sure I agree. Vedral was in for 4 drives. 3 ened in punts and two 3& outs. Plus it's easy to look decisive when all your running plays are called QB runs. He does look faster than am to me however. I think we need atleast a full game of him before we make these sweeping judgements
Those drives also had terrible play calling by Frost. A couple outside runs that went nowhere, inside runs that went nowhere, and acted like he was afraid to let Vedral pass. Vedral did have a few nice runs up the middle and when he did get the chance to pass, he did decent. That pass to Wandale and his decision making afterwards won us the game. I don't think Martinez makes those plays.

If we were rating qbs on a scale of poor, below average, average, above average and elite, the ceiling for Martinez is elite and ceiling for Vedral is probably somewhere close to above average.

I can see the point of people who are down playing Vedral right now, because clearly the best case scenario for Nebraska is for AM to build on his promise from last year. I'm not buying that his struggles are mainly due to poor snaps and o line play, the kid is playing scared and looks lost out there.

When it comes to Vedral, that was a beautiful throw to Wandale. What really stuck with me though from yesterday were 3 other plays that he made that were a clear contrast (in a good way) to the Martinez that we have seen this year.

Play 1 - Vedral scans the field and doesn't see anyone open, he quickly checks the ball down to Wandale who then makes a few guys miss and ends up gaining 8-9 yards. What impressed me here was the quick scan of the field and then decisive throw to the checkdown. Let the playmaker make a play instead of holding on to the ball.

Play 2 - After the throw to Wandale on the winning drive, Mills was stopped for ~4 yard loss, it is 2nd and 14 from the 20 yard line. Vedral is back to pass and scans the field, he sees a crease between the guard and tackle and without hesitating he tucks the ball and runs through the guard and tackle and goes for 7 yards and gets out of bounds. Him getting out of bounds allowed us to keep, our last time out and use it on the very next play where we got the ball in the middle of the field. No doubt in my mind, that if AM is the qb in this scenario, he either gets sacked or he steps into the crease between the guard and tackle and desperately looks for a WR to get open before throwing it away. These 7 yards were HUGE yesterday.

Play 3 - On the very next play, Vedral is running to his left trying to get the ball to the middle of the field for a game winning kick attempt. A NW lineman breaks free and has a clear shot at Vedral. Vedral side steps the lineman back into the middle of the field and picks up 6 more yards. This struck me as a player with a high football IQ. I could be reading too much into it here. However, I have seen countless players on our team try to run backwards and around a lineman that breaks through. Instead Vedral knew he wanted the ball in the middle of the field so that is where he went with the ball.

Part of being successful with an awful offensive line is knowing the offensive line is awful and making decisions accordingly. Seeing Vedral quickly scan the field and check down to Wandale, seeing Vedral quickly scan the field and decisively tuck the ball and run for 7 yards and seeing Vedral with an awareness of one play's ultimate objective (keep the ball in the middle of the field) signals to me that he has a high football IQ and very good grasp of the offense.

While Vedral's ceiling is clearly lower than Martinez's, I would like to see more Vedral. Martinez has had 4 quarters where he has been above average to elite, the first half of CU and the second half of Illinoiis. His indecisiveness and tentativeness is part of what is crippling our offense. At this point, a quarterback that plays fearless and decisive is a better option than Martinez.
I agree with you Martinez ceiling is elite. That's all the more reason to bench him when he's been playing below average this entire season. Continuing to play Martinez with the way he's been playing, and maybe with an injury to boot is just going to kill his confidence even more and the damage may be permanent. I don't see Vedral playing any worse than Martinez has, and in fact with the other problems we've been having on offense, Vedral's skillset may give us a better chance to win right now.

it's too bad we will have to put up with this for the next 2 and a half years of barely scraping by because people believe in practice players or ceilings, when reality stares at everyone in the face and says something different.

Yep, just like between Scott Frost and Frankie London. How'd that turn out? All I've said is there is no controversy in the mind of the Coach. That must mean something unless you think Frost doesn't have a clue. Look, reread my posts - I'm not saying Martinez has played great and I'm 100% fine if Frost benches him for poor play. I think it's idiotic to think you know better than Frost, and I think you're the definition of a moron fan when you call AM a bum and say you don't think he's trying to win. If Vedral starts on Saturday and seizes the job then more power to him.

So... you seem to think what the "people" think matters? This board could be 100% united that Vedral should start and it would matter 0%. We can have fun arguing here and it doesn't amount to a squirt of piss. Frost doesn't care what you or I think.

so why do you always seem to find your way to the personal insults? I know why, because you can't offer any good analysis on your own, and the only thing you can do is attack another poster via name calling or whatever other childish insults you can come up with. Ignored.

Rich... you can call AM a bum and a quitter and someone who doesn’t care and doesn’t try, but when someone calls you out and calls you a moron you get all offended.

Do you really not get it?

if I'm talking about a 3rd party, that is different than having a direct confrontation with someone on here. Get it?

AM is a very good QB but is not the runner that our staff desired him to be....his passing will improve when his weapons improve...but there isn't a qb in the country who would thrive with what we have...we have WR who cannot get open and do not make plays...we have no true backs, and no run game...Mills still struggles with hitting holes in this current offense. We basically have no offense outside of a true freshman scat back...and so judgement on the qb can't be made.
Not going to argue the rest. This is false, I have watched game after game where WR are wide open and Martinez misses completely or throws at their feet or 5 ft over their heads.

Loud and clear. It’s ok to talk about someone behind their back. The rest of my post is not for you, so please stop reading.

@mgbreis, I think Nikki is a moron and a bum.
